Don't Mess With Texas

Tax deductible

Our friends in the South are hurting.  Hurricane Harvey pummeled the Gulf Coast and is still assaulting the Houston area and beyond.

This is part of the fundraiser "Don't Mess With Texas." All funds from this page will go directly to the Cajun Navy.  Donations are fully tax deductible.

My name is Sabrina Hendershot and I am an attorney in Delaware. I am also an alumna of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. I moved to Corpus Christi in 2009 and knew nobody. But I was never alone. The people of Corpus Christi, Padre Island, and Port Aransas became my family. They brought me into their homes on holidays, fed me when I literally had no money, and treated me like family. Seeing their home, my former home, in shambles, is deeply personal to me and I want our funds to go to the organizations doing some of the best work on the ground who may not have as large of a platform as groups such as the Red Cross and the like.  I have chosen the three following groups:

The Cajun Navy: The Cajun Navy is an all-volunteer organization of boat owning-good samaritans who assist in flood search-and-rescue efforts. Based in south Louisiana, the group draws its name from the region's Cajun people. The group first came into existence after Hurricane Katrina, and they have sprung into action to help our friends in Houston with search and rescue efforts.

Coastal Bend Comunity Foundation's Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Fund: The Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group (CDRG) is a long-term recovery non-profit group created to address the unmet needs of Coastal Bend area residents affected by disaster. This group is dedicated to helping rebuild Nueces County and Port Aransas, areas that really need it, and will help repair devastated lives.

Austin Pets Alive!
: Our furry friends are in need of rescuing as well. Austin Pets Alive! has been helping shelters in the direct line of Hurricane Harvey. They have been working with local shelters have transported hundreds of animals to their shelter. The care for these animals doesn’t stop once the hurricane is over, and they are in dire need of financial support to continue care for the pets.
