It’s a cliché to say bad things happen to good people, but unfortunately the cliché has come true. Two kind and wonderful people have experienced the misfortune of a house fire on Christmas Day. Don and Suzanne Ackley-Perot are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), known in the SCA as Lord Dubhgall Domnall MacNayre and Lady Keara Caitlyn MacLeod of the Barony of Delftwood, Kingdom of Æthelmearc. Don is also a veteran of the U.S. Army. They lost almost everything in the fire.
These two people have lost not only their home, but a beloved pet—their 14-year-old dog Guinness—who died in the house. Missing are Stormageddon, a female long-haired tabby cat who answers to “Stormy”; Artemis (Stormy's 5-month-old female silver tabby kitten); and Micky, a red corgi, age uncertain. The only bright spot for this couple is the fact that William of Orange, a 7-month-old kitten, was found and is currently receiving veterinary care.
All personal possessions—some of which had been recently inherited from a parent’s estate—are gone. Neither Don nor Susanne have clothing or extra shoes. While they are currently residing as guests with friends, they need immediate cash to replace their lost items so that they may return to their employment.
