Donovan's EMT fund

My name is Donovan and I am 28 years old. I'm currently a seasonal Ranger Specialist for Arizona State Parks working at Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park. It has been an honoring position being able to represent a park with such an unique background. The park memorializes 19 brave wildland firefighters known as hotshots who lost their lives trying to protect the town of Yarnell. My job at the park is to be a source of information to park visitors, maintain the trail, and act as first responder for any incident. The safety of the park visitors is our top priority. Although Arizona State Parks provides medical training with Wilderness First Aid and CPR, First aid, and AED training, I am currently seeking to improve my medical skills via an EMT class. This class will provide me with the knowledge to most efficiently carry out my duties at the park and become a ranger with some decent med skills. However, this is not the only reason for this gofundme campaign.

As I began studying the park and learning everything I could about the 19 hotshots, something unexpected happened, I started developing interests in becoming a wildland firefighter. I began reading books, talking with the fire crews that visited the park, and I even started to do the physical training required to become a hotshot just for fun. It was just something I had been getting into without giving it much attention. The idea of actually becoming a wildland firefighter seemed to be a long ways away. Nevertheless, that quickly changed the day I assisted a man coming down the memorial trail. In his attempt to complete the trail he took a wrong step and his knees began to give out on him. I took it upon myself to startup some conversation and hike down the trail alongside of him to make sure he got back to his car safely. I told him about my interests in wildland firefighting while we walked for about an hour or so. It turns out I had been talking to a wildland firefighter incident commander the entire time! As he learned about my interests and plans to take the EMT class he then, to my surprise, offered up a spot on his incident crew for the next season. This is of course if I have my EMT certification and could complete the physical training requirements. These are no small feats, but I am very confident that I can attain these goals by January (when applications need to be submitted). Especially if I had a little bit of help.

I have enrolled at Yavapai College and secured a spot in the class. Unfortunately, the tuition for the class is outside of my budget. I have attempted to look towards other resources, but financial aid does not support this class and I don't meet the requirements for the scholarships offered. The class needs to be paid in full by July 17th. So time is running out for me to come up with the funds for this. Here are some of the costs I am looking at:

EMS Tuition: $330
Registration Tuition: $830
Books: $110.45

Even if half the people I knew donated $10 dollars and shared this then I would have a shot at taking this class in the upcoming semester. It would mean a lot to me.

The help is very much appreciated! If I reach this goal I'll keep all of you updated on the class through Facebook. I'll even keep you updated on when I'm out fighting fires in the wild!
