Send Donovan Bown to Tanglewood

Donation protected
My name is Donovan Bown, and I am a young, aspiring oboist. I am asking for your help to achieve my dream of becoming a professional musician with a symphony orchestra.  Over the course of my budding career, I have had many incredible opportunities, such as being a member of the
Seattle Youth Symphony
 , the
National Youth Orchestra 2
 , and the
Marrowstone Music Festival
. This summer, I have another opportunity; to travel to Massachusetts and attend the
Tanglewood Institute
 .

I auditioned, and was admitted to the Oboe Workshop.  I will have a chance to hone my craft with world-renowned oboists, and other high caliber young musicians. To take part in Tanglewood would be a profoundly important experience for me. Those who attend the festival go on to do great things in music, and I could do the same.

I am asking for donations to pay for my tuition and travel expenses.  The tuition is $3,300 and I will be flying to Boston and taking a bus to the Tanglewood Institute.   A donation of any amount will help and I am honored that you would consider my request.  My goal is to raise the funds by 5/25/18.

Information about Tanglewood:
20 percent of the members of American symphony orchestras, and 30 percent of all first-chair players, studied at the Tanglewood Institute.

"Tanglewood is not a school, in the strict sense.  It does not offer courses, degrees, credits…no student is striving for grades.  The goals are much higher than that. Tanglewood is a musical universe where a young musician is subjected to gravitational pulls, magnetic fields, electrical impulses, varying atmospheres, and changing topography. What he emerges with, after it is all over, is not a report card, or the ability to play faster than the next fellow. What Tanglewood hopes...is that the student emerge from this model universe with a conception of his own true orbit; that the young planet acquire its direction, its sense of relationship to its fellow-planets, and its particular function in the larger universe outside."

Leonard Bernstein (TMC '40, '41, & '42)

What else am I doing to raise funds?
In addition to this campaign, I am working as much as possible (stop by Oddfellows Café some Sunday to see me) and I am also selling my old, student oboe (know a young, aspiring oboist who needs an instrument?).  I am also available to teach young oboists (again, send them my way, if you know anyone).

See me in action:
Here are some links to see what I have been up to.  The
first
is a story done my KOMO news about playing side by side with the Seattle Symphony.  The
second
is from my audition videos from my recent college applications.

Chance to win tickets!
If you have read this far, I have a treat for you!  For all donors who contribute by 4/15, I will draw a name and give that donor two free tickets to the Seattle Youth Symphony 4/22 concert at 3pm at Benaroya Hall.   All Brahms!

Again, I am honored that you would consider helping me!
