Donny’s Fight Against GBS

On Wednesday, January 24th, 2018, our Donny Myers, was diagnosed with Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS) . This rare disorder occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own nervous system. The resulting paralytic effects come on very quickly, and the causes are relatively unknown.
For those who aren’t aware, my Uncle Donny lost feeling to his legs at 2am and fell to the ground. He was taken by ambulance to UTMB League City then a few hours later transferred to UTMB Galveston. As hours went by more of his body was losing feeling (pretty fast) within 24 hrs he was completely paralyzed from head to toe and in a self induced coma. He received 2 rounds of IVIG treatments and has been placed with a trach. We have been told this is one of the worst cases they have ever seen, specialist from Boston were even consulted. On Saturday, February 10th we were told they basically have done everything they can do to treat it, that it was a wait and see kind of thing now. Probably within 15-20min (taking a wild guess on that) we got a phone call that my Uncle Donny was moving his head. Having to see it for ourselves we all rushed down to Galveston to see this, and low and behold he was able to answer yes and no questions again!!! Tonight, February 15th, he was transferred to Kendra’s Hospital in Webster for LT Care.
Although we still have a very long rode ahead of us, we are finally headed in the right direction!!!! This has been such an emotional rollercoaster for all of us as a family but it has definitely made a already strong family, even stronger.
Keep praying! Like I said, we still have a long road ahead, recovery is 6 months to a year.
Although Donny has medical insurance, he will incur many medical bills for his lengthy stays as well as keeping up on bills without being able to work. This page is here to keep his financial goals on track during this difficult time in his health and all money collected will go directly to Donny and his expenses.
We have a great family, amazing friends, and we will help Donny beat this together.
