Donna @ Regency , MEDICAL HELP

This is Kerry Hucul from Yacht Promenade & H2O Trips.
Many of you in the charter yacht industry of the Virgin Islands, as well as the general community of Virgin Islands and elsewhere, know Donna Romasco and her husband Dave.

Donna and Dave have lived aboard in Trellis Bay with their dog Trixie for quite awhile. David used to work at Parts N Power and Donna has aptly and cheerfully manned the booking desk at Regency Fleet in Roadtown keeping all the ducks (yachts, crews, and brokers) in a row.

A year ago Donna developed severe hip pain and was only able to walk in agony. After testing and doctors visits, it was determined that her hip bone was crumbling (yes crumbling!) very quickly and she would need a total hip replacement. This was done about 2 months ago on Tortola.

She was immediately up and walking and marveling at the fact that the pain was gone! The bone had totally been disintegrating. Why, we don’t know.

Unfortunately, shortly after leaving the hospital, David came down with Chikungunya while caring for Donna back on their boat now docked in Village Cay Marina for hurricane season. David was very ill and before his condition improved, Donna came down with Haemorraghic Dengue Fever.

Then complications set in. She bled into the joint and an infection developed in the newly replaced hip area and bones. She returned to Bougainvillea where she was immediately put on IV antibiotics for a week, then the area was opened up and cleaned out.

She's currently been in hospital a total of 26 days, 3 major surgeries and at least one more to go. The hip parts must all be replaced as the infection has compromised the originals.

In her words "... was doing so well, was walking on new hip without any crutches or cane and I caught Hemorrhagic Dengue which went straight to the new hip and infected the freshly cut off femur and did its bleeding thing in the new joint which then became massively infected. It sucks!"

Even with insurance, her co-pays are piling up, surgery after surgery, with the hospital and insurance companies arguing back and forth, best estimate for out of pocket is approximately $15,000 $20,000 with co-pays. This is way above their ability to afford at the moment.

I have set up this Go Fund Page to try and help raise money to help Donna for these surgeries and care. Can you imagine being in the hospital for weeks on end in the British Virgin Islands? I cannot. Anything you can give to help would be great appreciated by both Donna and David. Any ideas you have that we can raise money to help her would be greatly appreciated.

Why am I doing this? There but for the Grace of God go I. I have been in similar situations with insurance co-pays and what wasn’t covered came close to wiping me out. The stress of wondering how you are going to pay to get well, on top of just trying to get well and wondering how you can do your job from a hospital bed to earn an income while on heavy painkillers, is extreme.

Anyone who is familiar with the medical system and the dire consequences of the infections that Donna is facing currently, will empathize.

Donna appreciates any small amount that you can help with. Please share!!
