Donna Kelly's Kidney

Ok. I’m not going to pretty this up or anything, I’m going to tell you how it is. Sometimes people have rotten things happen to them. Then something more rotten happens. And just when you think nothing worse can happen. It does. THEN you find out you have cancer and have to have your kidney removed.  That’s the story. It totally sucks. 

Our friend & co-worker Donna Kelly has had a seriously rough year. The details aren’t necessary, it was just one stressful, depressing, trying thing after another. Then she learned she has a tumor on one of her kidneys and it has to be removed. 
Most recently she learned that the local urology oncologist is not able to so the surgery, so she’s been referred to Jefferson in Philadelphia. A good hospital yes, but a change to the original plan, further away from home. 

Our health plan at work is a high deductible health plan, which means you need to spend a good amount of money out of pocket.  Another thing Donna is stressed out about. 

She, like all of us, has rent & bills to pay and will not be able to bounce back into work after having a kidney removed. She doesn’t have much, if any, Paid Time Off, because of doctor appointments. She does not have short term disability benefits. 

We would just like to be able to help her not  need to worry about money.  We will go into the city to see her, and visit her at home, as of course will her children. But we want to help her financially somehow. 

Thus, the reason for this. 

I’ve never done this before.  Sorry if it sucks. 

Donna has been trying to hold on, be strong, and be positive. She doesn’t want to ask anyone for anything. (But I did get her permission to do this.) 

If you know Donna, I know you don’t want to see her struggle.  But she is. Anything anyone can do will help.
