Hi, my name is Julie. We have always tried to help animal charities by adopting many pets from them, including 3 dogs, 3 goats and chickens.

This time it's my own dog I need help to save.

I am raising funds for a very precious member of our family to help her beat severe pneumonia.

Our beautiful German Shepard Bella had to be admitted for emergency care Sunday after having some difficulty breathing and moving and then was transferred to a specialist hospital in Bedford yesterday where she has now been moved today into intensive care.

On Wednesday we took her to the vet as she had started limping and had hoarse vocals.

They did some blood tests and a quick basic scan, gave her IV painkillers and IV antibiotics, then sent her home with oral antibiotics and painkillers.

The blood tests came back with an insane infection level. Normal is between 0 and 20, hers was 200.

So she had an infection but they didn't know where.

They booked her in for an x ray on Friday. We went back for that x ray which showed a small bronchial tract infection (they said)

Gave her more IV antibiotics and painkillers, mentioned referring her to a specialist or trying steroids to get on top of it, but if she had steroids they wouldn't take her as a referral because it would mask things... come back for a more indepth scan on Monday under anaesthetic and we'll go from there.

Over the weekend (sat) she stopped eating and drinking and yelped in pain every time she tried to move.. I called the emergency line on Sunday and that takes us back to where she is now..

Since yesterday she has had a CT scan and several samples taken to be tested in the lab.

She has 3 things going on.

The main one being severe pneumonia.

The second is fluid on her joints in all 4 legs. This is called autoimmune mediated polyathritis, being caused by the infection.

The third is what they thought was a cyst on her neck. They have now discovered from the sample taken that it is an infected fluid filled sac and is running into her shoulder and down her leg which has been causing the lameness in her front leg.

Her oxygen level has dropped very low so she has been moved to intensive care on oxygen..

They can't treat the other conditions until they've got on top of the pneumonia.

To have any chance of that she needs to remain in intensive care for a few days at £800 a day..

This isn't something I would normally do and many people will say "why haven't you insured your dog" the answer to that is we have, but the hospital are unsure if they will assess the 3 conditions separately or try to lump them together as one.

Meaning they would only pay out £2000 instead of £6000.

Then there will be the excesses and referral to come off of that.

At present the bill is standing at £7000. For her to remain in intensive care for the next 3/4 days will push it up to £10,000.

So a possible shortfall of £5,000.

This is the only chance she has of beating it, so we are trying to raise as much as we can to allow her to stay in intensive care on oxygen and IV antibiotics and painkillers to give her the best chance of doing that, so she can beat it and come home to us, where she belongs. We can't give up on her, she's trying to fight it so we need to help her do that.

Everyone is struggling, so we honestly are extremely grateful for any amount you can donate.

I know to some people she's just a dog, but she's so much more than that.. she's the heart of the family.
