Dr. Chunyu Zhang, born on January 1, 1967 in Jiangxi, China, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on October 1, 2018 in Columbia, Maryland at age 51.
2018年10月1日晚，华人医学科学家，约翰·霍普金斯大学医学院肿瘤学系肺癌与衰老项目, 首席科学家张春雨博士心脏病突发不幸于美国逝世，享年51岁。
Chunyu was the son of two urban intellects who were sent to a Jiangxi rural village for reform. Sadly, at an early age of 11 months, Chunyu lost both of his parents and was subsequently adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Fuxiang Zhang. Under their loving care, Chunyu quickly grew to an accomplished, mature middle schooler. He was No. 1 student in his middle-high school. Just as described by the meaning of his name --- Spring Rain, Chunyu started his life as a tender spring rain drop, through perseverance, drive, and hard work Chunyu had become an influential life force of meaning and purpose, touching many people’s life with his research, teaching, and commercial product.
多舛不失温暖是张春雨童年的注脚。张春雨祖籍湖南省宁乡市，母亲是下放于江西省赣州市龙南县九连山林场的知青。在他出生不久后父母先后过世，张春雨便由林场职工张福祥夫妇收养，养父母对他视如己出，一个清贫却温馨的家庭为他撑起成长的天地。张春雨只知道自己出生于1967年，但不知道具体时间，他便把自己的生日定为 1月1日，他希望在新年里全世界的人也给他庆祝生日。
1979年，张春雨在九连山田心小学毕业，以九连山第一名的成绩考取了县重点中学――龙南中学。初醒的少年立下了成为对社会有用之人的志向。1985年高中毕业参加高考，以他的成绩完全可以报考北大、清华的，但因家境贫困他报了北京师范大学就读生物系。遗憾的是，此时，张春雨养父却患肺癌去世了，养父没能看到自己读大学，这是张春雨一辈子的痛，也许这正是他之后潜心研究抗癌良方的动力与决心吧。
Chunyu was a graduate of Beijing Normal University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Chunyu additionally held a Master and a PhD degree from Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which he finished a year earlier than anticipated, with many awards and accolades. In 1997, he was selected by Yale University for his postdoctoral research. Since coming to the United States, Chunyu’s career further took off. He worked at many top-notch universities and research institutes, such as Harvard Medical School, Harvard Institute of Medicine, National Cancer Institute, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Chunyu published nearly 30 papers in top scientific journals such as the Mucosal Immunology under Nature and Cell Death and Disease of Nature Publishing Group, the Cancer Research, the Clinical Cancer Research, the Molecular Cancer Therapeutics of the American Association for Cancer Research, the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, the Genomics, the Science Bulletin, and the Cell, producing 128 cumulative impact factors and 1,600 citations.
在北师大读书期间，张春雨节衣缩食，一开始靠养母和哥哥寄点钱补贴，之后张春雨边读书边做家教，不要家人寄钱了。张春雨总是最晚离开教室，到食堂匆匆扒几口简单的饭菜后，又匆匆赶回教室自习，而很多时候是边吃饭边看书。他身上那件廉价化纤面料缝制的灰色西服一穿就穿了四年。物质上的窘迫并不意味着精神上的贫瘠。张春雨也是一个文艺青年，他能弹奏当时风靡校园的古典吉他，还能自己填词作曲。大学几年，他没有向任何人抱怨过家境的困窘与命运的坎坷，而是开朗乐观，积极上进。他真诚待人、热爱生活的形象深深印入了同学们的脑海。“学为人师、行为世范”的热土奠定了他厚实的人生基石，激励出他憧憬辉煌的情怀，毕业时他喊出了“我没有显赫的出生，但我有无尽的努力，我要闯出我梦想的天地”的豪言。
1989年，张春雨大学毕业后分配回龙南中学教书。在龙南中学任教的日子里，张春雨的讲课受到了学生们的欢迎。他的学生回忆说“张老师的生物课讲得既清晰又生动，听他的课，生物不再枯燥无味。而且其思想先进开放，教学严谨大胆，令人耳目一新。”然而，在内心深处，张春雨仍怀揣更大的梦想，他希望自己能够继续深造，获得更多的知识，步入更广阔的世界。
The death of his adoptive father, Mr. Zhang, in 1985 from lung cancer after many years of struggle with bronchitis and asthma inspired Chunyu to “make a difference in cancer research and help relieve the suffering”. He was determined, “I hope to make more progress in my cancer research, so that more people can live longer and healthier, and no longer suffer the pain my adoptive father had been though. This is my lifelong pursuit and cause”.
In recent years, Chunyu and his research team identified for the first time an entire new mechanism of transcriptional activation of tumor suppressor gene, RhoB, and accordingly found some novel anti-cancer small molecules. One product shows the most promise in inducing tumor cell death without excessive toxicity to normal cells. This product, by Chunyu’s further modification, can safely and effectively keep the RhoB level high in not only cancer cells but also normal cells so as to both suppress cancer and protect normal cells (anti-aging). In 2017, Chunyu founded his company, SanuLife, in Maryland and commercialized the product, Rovidium, in US and China.
Chunyu is survived by his beloved ex-wife Hongling Liao, daughter Gloria Zhang, his half-brother Yanjing Tan in China, cousins, many nephews and nieces.

2002年－2014年，张春雨先后就职美国国家癌症研究所癌症研究中心，拉夫蕾丝呼吸研究所，约翰·霍普金斯Bayview医学中心。2015年，张春雨就职约翰·霍普金斯大学医学院，成为肿瘤学系及悉尼金梅尔综合癌症中心肺癌与衰老研究项目首席科学家。2017 年他还和企业家刘春水共同创立了SanuLife Inc美国盛优生命科技股份有限公司，旨在研发基于科学的健康管理、生物技术和修身益智产品，打造智慧型精准服务体系以及大健康产业链。
张春雨工作起来没日没夜的，半夜在研究所干活是常事，有时候甚至是整夜不回家。写论文、开讲座、搞研究……在抗癌研究道路上，张春雨孜孜不倦。在美国期间，由于时空和忙碌，张春雨甚至连自己的养母和姐姐先后过世都没有时间及时回家看到她们最后一眼。
当有了研究成果时，他还致力服务自己的祖国和家乡。2018年7月31日，“青峰药谷高智峰会”在张春雨的家乡赣州成功举办。张春雨应邀出席，并与章贡区政府签约抑癌基因RhoB转录激活小分子药物开发项目。双方就知识产权、资金投入和来源、资源整合和人员配置达成战略合作，助力健康中国建设。会上，张春雨结合最新科研成果就肺癌药物研发国际现状和趋势进行了深入阐述，揭示肺癌与阻塞性呼吸系统疾病共生的可能机制，分析肺癌药物研发国际现状及肺癌药物研发的未来趋势，受到业界广泛关注。
2018年8月，SanuLife最新科技成果ROVIDIUM 诺威锭系列产品在美国上市，并已通过美国FDA、USDA、UL等权威认证。诺威锭产品反映了预防癌症和延缓衰老一箭双雕的创新科学理念，可实现防癌抗衰和延年益寿。这是张春雨20年防癌抗衰潜心研究的成果结晶和心血。本应享受这成功的喜悦，没想到，张春雨却因过劳离世。
张春雨的一生是从懵懂走向解惑的一生，是从求学走上教学的一生，是从艰难走向解难的一生，是从求索走向奉献的一生，他用人世间所能给与他的有限关爱、财富和时间，展现出奋斗、拼搏、博爱的闪耀光辉！
