My name is Zoia Kanovich, and I am the proud daughter of a man whose vision and determination never cease to inspire me. My father, Dmitri Kanovich, founded Looking at the Stars, a non-profit organization that brings the transformative power of live classical music to some of society's most overlooked and marginalized communities. Through his work, he’s shown me how classical music can touch hearts, heal wounds, and remind us of the shared humanity that connects us all.

Looking at the Stars (www.lookingatthestars.org) has made it its mission to perform in places where beauty and hope are often in short supply—correctional facilities, long-term care homes, and hospitals. It is a federal charity registered in Canada, U.S. and Lithuania whose purpose is to deliver classical music performed by world-class artists to those who need it most and expect it least.

Founded in 2015 it has since delivered over 100 classical music gifts (60+ minute interactive concerts) to the audiences of about 10,000 in Canada, Lithuania, Ukraine and U.S.

To continue their U.S. prison journey which started in 2024 and to return to the incarcerated in 5 correctional institutions in Massachusetts and Minnesota, they need to raise funds, which will allow them to deliver 10 concerts to their grateful audiences there.

These prisons are places where life can feel isolating and devoid of joy. My father believes that everyone, regardless of circumstance, deserves access to the soul-stirring magic of music, and he’s made it his life’s work to bring that belief to life.

But this mission cannot thrive without the support of generous hearts like yours. While the performances are offered free to the audience, organizing them involves significant costs: hiring world-class musicians, transporting delicate instruments, and ensuring every performance reaches those who need it most.

And so, for my father's upcoming birthday, I thought it would be special to raise money for this cause.
