In August, my friend Nancy Sauter had planned to visit with my Grandma, who was staying in a senior living facility while my family was away. She didn't end up visting, though, and I figured she had gotten busy at work, or she was assisting her parents because her mom had just had knee surgery.
A few days later, she texted me, apologizing that she hadn't been able to see my Grandma because she had been in the ER due to a sudden swelling of her abdomen with fluid. They did tests and found a mass, but they were not sure if it was cancerous or not.
About two weeks later, she had a complete hysterectomy along with exploratory surgery. They found malignant tumors in both ovaries along with cancer spots in a few other areas outside of the reproductive organs. She is now considered Stage 4 and is receiving chemotherapy every three weeks for the next eighteen weeks. She has been super strong through it all, facing each challenge head on and keeping a positive attitude at the same time.
Nancy has now been out of work over two months. While her employer and co-workers have been supportive, she has used up all her sick, vacation, and personal time and currently has no income. She has a small disability policy, but they haven't started paying her anything because it has to be proven that the cancer was not a pre-existing condition! On top of that, her health insurance doesn't cover one of the medicines that is being recommended to help her through the chemo, and she simply cannot afford the out-of-pocket cost for it. Aside from medical expenses, her mortgage and household bills are piling up.
As many of you know, Nancy and I were as good as sisters-in-law for many years. Although our ties to the Robertson family have changed over the years, she and I have remained close and I consider her one of my dearest friends. I am reaching out to all of you to ask for your help in supporting her in whatever way you are able. No amount is too small. If enough money can be raised to even help with some of her bills, it would be so greatly appreciated. Please help if you can and thank you so much!
