We lost Rebecca Zahradka to domestic violence on October 13, 2021.

It was a beautiful October evening when Becky, in her usual manner, was busy baking and preparing to host her husband’s family at her home, while trying to keep track of her busy little 2-year-old boy, DJ. At approximately 7:30pm, Becky suffered a fatal gunshot wound. After questioning the family members at her home, her husband was charged with first degree murder of his wife. DJ is now in the hands of the husband’s family.

We are telling Becky’s story in an effort to create something positive out of this horrific event, to honor Becky by providing for her son a safe, and loving future.

We are the staff and doctors who worked with Becky for years at the Northwest Eye Center and Essence Laser & Wellness. Becky was the hub of the front office, diligently working for the advocacy of our patients; she made a difference in our patients’ lives. But she was also a cherished friend and colleague, and above all, we all knew her as a wonderfully devoted mother. We are shocked and devastated by her loss, and by DJ’s loss of his mother.

We have established a private trust fund in DJ’s name. Donations from this page will be put into the private trust fund to ensure the funds are safe and used appropriately. The trust fund will be invested to allow for growth and provide for DJ hopefully for many years to come. More specifically, at the discretion of the trustees, funds will be used primarily for DJ’s future educational/vocational goals, living expenses, and for legal fees to his maternal family if necessary, to ensure he is in a safe living environment.
