Our neighbors have suffered a heartbreaking loss today, on Valentines Day, after their beloved 7 month old Dutch shepherd, Rikki, went missing during a trip to the vet last Friday. After so much help from the Bennington neighborhood, Raleigh PD, Wake County Animal Control, Rangers at Umstead Park, Bravo K911, and several sightings, Rikki was unfortunately hit by a car on Monday afternoon, but a Good Samaritan got him to the vet where they nursed him back to being stable to have surgery today. He pulled through the surgery great but went into cardiac arrest afterwards and after the caring and empathetic team at CareFirst did all they could to save him, it was too much for young Rikki.
This is extra heartbreaking as they hadn’t have Rikki long after loosing another young Dutch shepherd just last month after never waking from a routine neuter. Their other Dutch shepherd is once again without what should have been a lifelong companion.
Rikki’s parents now have tremendous vet bills and no Rikki just as things were looking up. Please help us in easing this heavy burden for them.
