6/7/25 Update on Sensei
There have been some ups and downs with Sensei since our last update:
-good: there have been improvements in appetite, respiratory symptoms (all gone!), head wounds (almost healed!), and overall energy levels.
-bad: there have been complications with his front paw, which was originally thought to be sprained. He has been non-weight-bearing for two and a half weeks and it began to seriously swell. It has clearly been causing him severe pain. This resulted in the need for an emergency visit last weekend for closer observation and testing, which included x-rays and fluid culture. Thankfully we were able to rule out bone breaks, but the paw has appeared to develop a serious infection. The current hypothesis is cellulitis and he has been switched to a new antibiotic to hopefully target the infection more effectively.
-he has an appointment with a feline veterinarian in a few weeks who will be following up on all of this.
-his ongoing medical care, especially the emergency visit, has continued to raise unexpected costs, including supplies like a thermometer to ensure his temp is stable, Hydracare (the only thing he will drink), immune-supporting supplements, etc. However, it has all been absolutely necessary to get to the bottom of the paw mystery before the situation became worse.

Sensei was found as a stray by a neighbor who was extremely concerned for him, and she reached out for help as he had two wounds on his face that were actively bleeding, so we knew it was urgent to help him immediately. Once trapped, he was brought to my vet to be fixed, vaccinated, and receive wound care. Sensei is being fostered by the woman who originally saw him, and she began to notice some changes in his behavior, which continued to become worse over the past week. He was taken back to my vet by his foster and kept for observation, bloodwork, X-rays, etc. After consulting with several vets and looking at his test results, it has been determined he has FIP. Sensei is a very loving, sweet cat and needs the FIP meds to survive. His bills have already exceeded what we can afford. I have set up this fundraiser to hopefully help in defraying the costs of his vet visits and medicine for his FIP. His fosters have really become his champions, and we all want what's best for him but can't do it without your help. Costs to date are $2,300.00, which are his two recent visits and his FIP meds, which are being ordered today. Estimated treatment is close to $800.00. He will need to be monitored throughout his treatment, which will incur more bills for vet visits. I appreciate any help in getting Sensei better so he can be adopted and live an amazing life.
