<div>Hi, my name is Sarah, and I’m raising $40,000 to help cover ongoing medical expenses as I navigate treatment for stage 4 lung cancer.

<div>I was diagnosed in December after over two years of declining health and searching for answers. By the time I got the diagnosis, the mass in my lung had grown. Turns out it is a complicated case as I am a non-smoker so the cause is unknown. I did have Covid followed by life-threatening pneumonia. Treatment for this is how the mass was discovered. I began chemo right away, and although it didn’t shrink the mass in my lung, it did stabilize it. Now, I’m beginning the next phase of long term treatment with the goal of managing the cancer, not being “cancer free.” It could mean re-starting chemo or two years of immunotherapy, with a treatment every 3 weeks. Each infusion costs $20,000. Thankfully, my new insurance should cover most of it—but not all.

<div>It feels important to share that I’m single and don’t have close family—my “chosen family” of dear friends has been a lifeline, but the weight of this process has largely been mine to carry.

<div>As an artist, consultant, and designer running my own business, I’ve been grateful for the flexibility to manage treatment and appointments. But flexibility doesn’t guarantee income, medical leave, or consistent access to health insurance. Over the last few years, my ability to work full-time has been deeply affected. With treatment continuing and energy still limited, I’m facing a financial gap while trying to ramp back up.
