This is our dog Sam. He is 5 1/2 years old.

Sam is your typical dog, he loves to bark at the mailman and cuddle at your feet at the end of the day. Everything seemed fine until Monday when his behavior and overall demeanor changed. The usually happy and energetic Sam was lethargic and weak.

We brought him to multiple vets and after finally getting to a specialist with the proper equipment for testing and scans, they suspect he has autoimmune hemolytic anemia. He has been getting treatment (blood transfusions, antibiotics, etc) since 5/12, the initial estimate was 7-10 thousand and seemed doable for us to pay off with credit and loans. The treatment thus far hasn’t been successful in returning Sam to a stable enough level in which we can bring him home, he continues to need more transfusions and the estimates are continuing to rise. We are now looking at a 14 thousand dollar bill and with every day the cost increases. We’re now having to decide between years of even more medical debt or Sam not getting his life saving treatments.
