Did you know that in all of Windham and New London County, there are currently zero licensed wildlife rehabilitators able to care for orphaned raccoons?

That means every spring and summer, dozens of helpless baby raccoons are at risk — many are illegally kept by the public without proper care, or worse, left to fend for themselves with no chance of survival.

We’re working to change that.

At Pachaug Wildlife Rehabilitation, we’re committed to filling this critical gap by constructing a raccoon pre-release enclosure that exceeds national minimum standards for care. This will allow us to legally and safely care for these intelligent, playful, and highly misunderstood animals during the most vulnerable stage of their lives.

To make this enclosure safe, durable, and compliant with state requirements, we need to raise $5,000. Here’s what your support will fund:

A poured concrete slab for safe, cleanable flooring

Dual-layered fencing with a 6” safety barrier to prevent accidental contact

A vestibule-style entry system for safe feeding and cleaning without escape risk

Roofing, climbing structures, nest boxes, and other enrichment features

Materials only — all labor will be donated by our amazing volunteers!

My mission is to support and care for Connecticut's wildlife in need, Rehabilitation of small mammals and release back into nature. My goal is to expand my organization and build more enclosures for outdoor acclimation, The need for wildlife rehabilitation is so high in my area. I am fortunate to have this opportunity to help and provide care.
