Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai

Tax deductible
Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai (Women of the Sea) is considered the premiere womenʻs outrigger canoe race. Since 1979, wāhine from around the world have come to the island of Moloka‘i to paddle their 6-person Hawaiian outrigger waʻa (canoes) over 40 miles across the Kaʻiwi channel to the island of Oʻahu. Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai celebrates a love of competition, connection to cultural traditions, and respect for the ocean and the wāhine who have traveled before. This September, for the first time since 2019, wāhine paddlers hope to once again join at Hale o Lono, Molokaʻi and journey to Waikīkī, Oʻahu. A critical part of this journey is trailering the 70 plus wa‘a from Kaunakakai down the dirt and gravel road to Hale O Lono where the wa‘a launch to begin the race. Over the years, this road has been battered by wind, rain, and erosion to the point where repairs are both necessary and significant.

Your contributions to Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai will ensure a safe journey for our wahine and waʻa as they traverse down the road to Hale O Lono, across the Kaʻiwi Channel, and to the shores of Waikīkī. Mahalo from Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai.
