<div>My name is Mike Murfitt and on 10/21, my best friend and professional BMX rider, <strong>Matt Cordova</strong>, took a really heavy fall while filming the last piece (his banger) for an upcoming video part. The gap he attempted was something he's dreamt of leaping for years now, and on the afternoon of the 21st, things just felt 'right'. We set up the cameras, he sized it up a few more times, and gave us the thumbs up.

<div>Unfortunately, Matt came up just a few inches shy going from a 6' into a 12' quarter pipe, causing him to go over the handlebars, shooting him directly to flat. We knew immediately that the injuries were going to be severe based on the setup &amp; the way he went down.

<div>Fortunately myself and two friends, Logan and Jack, were able to get Matt out of the bowl while assessing the situation. We realized we needed to get to an emergency room pretty quick.

<div>After arriving at the emergency room and having a few tests run, the nurse and doctor on his case started moving a bit quicker after a test came back indicating pretty severe internal bleeding. <strong>Next thing we know (15 minutes later), a helicopter was landing to load him up and take him to a trauma 1 center in Denver for emergency surgery.</strong>

<div>At this point in time, Matt has sustained a pretty serious laceration in his hand, a fractured wrist, some thrashed (somehow not broken) ribs, a concussion, and a 'shattered' spleen per the doctors. Spleen lacerations are rated 1 out of 5, and they keep telling us this one is a 5.5, or one of the worst they've seen. Most 5 rated spleens are immediate removals, but Matt is one tough dude and had some outstanding vitals, so they chose to attempt to save it. So far, things are thankfully progressing in a positive fashion; however, he's not out of the woods yet. He's got some rough days ahead of him before he clears ICU and is moved to a recovery floor, then hopefully discharged to return home shortly after.

<div>Outside of riding professionally, over the last few years Matt has started a career in bike park and trail building. Obviously, with injuries of this magnitude, it'll be a while before he's back to work, meaning even though he has insurance (thankfully) the bills are going to be rolling in without any income from work. While he does carry insurance, it is high deductible, fortunately or unfortunately, he pretty much met that deductible within 30 minutes of entering the emergency room...

<div>So...that's where you come in. <strong>As you could imagine, between the emergency surgery, the helicopter flight, everything in between, and what's to come, this whole ordeal is NOT going to be cheap.</strong> If you personally know Matt, you know he's one of the most humble guys and that he'd do ANYTHING for ANYONE, and he's the last person to ask for any help...so that's why I'm here, to do it for him.
