***UPDATE 17 Feb 2025***
Laddie has been discharged from the hospital. He is able to walk short distances, but very unstable and takes a lot of energy. He is happy to be home, and is setup on a nice big bed with blankets and a heating pad. We will continue to manage his pain, and try to keep him walking a few times a day. Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far, shared your good wishes, and/or shared the GFM link. We are very touched and appreciative to all of you helping our family. He has a long ways to go but is through the most critical part. We have him set up with the earliest available apt at Capital Veterinary Specialists physician on 3 March. He has a bumpy road ahead to get back to walking and playing again, and with your help, we wont stop until he's there.

Dear friends, family, and community members: Our dog, Laddie, has suffered a life-threatening attack, and we are in need of urgent financial assistance to ensure that he continues to live a full happy and healthy life. Laddie has brought so much joy to so many people and we want to be able to continue providing him the life we promised, but we need help. We have never asked for help of this magnitude and hope our community can find it in their hearts to support Laddie during these tragic times.
Laddie was attacked and shaken by a large dog on the morning of 14 February 2025. He has a puncture below the spine, one below his ear and two broken ribs. As of today, 16 February, he is still in the care of a 24/7 emergency veterinarian hospital. The next step is to transfer him to the care of a spinal specialist. He is currently unable to stand without assistance and only for short periods. Without urgent medical treatment, the paralysis may become permanent. We are hopeful that this treatment will be successful, as has been the vet's prognosis, but we do not currently have the funds to pay for the surgery.
So far, we have paid $1,886.30 to Ox Bottom and a deposit for treatment to Allied of $3,260.25. Due to the severity and expected length of recovery, we are expecting to pay at least $15,000 to help Laddie through this awful experience.
We rescued Laddie in 2014 and were told he was two years old. His status was listed as not adoptable. We were determined to lift this label from him, and ensure he was given a wonderful chance at life, just like other dogs who have been able to overcome this adversity. We were able to rescue him after we showed our extensive experience working with "difficult" dogs. Since then, he has been the best boy ever! Everyone who meets him loves him, people and dogs alike. He is everyone’s best friend and an important member of our family.
My husband and I have been fostering special needs cases for multiple rescues. This is a cause we are extremely passionate about and have worked hard to develop the skills necessary to help these dogs have better lives. We help dogs work through their issues and get them adopted to loving homes. We spend our off time assisting those who have rescued a dog by providing specialized training for both people and their rescue pups.
We hope the impact we have made in the community and the people and pets we have helped has been well received and will come back to help us in our time of need. We sincerely thank you for reading our story and supporting us through this heart wrenching time in ours and Laddie's lives.
