Skipz Productions is a not for profit organisation which provides after school classes for children - including arts, yoga, poetry, music, singing, acting and detective clubs. By popular demand, we've been teaching via Zoom during each lockdown, so kids don't miss out on learning the performing arts that they don't get taught at school.
We thrive on providing creative opportunities for kids, helping them develop self confidence whilst learning the arts during these challenging times. Find out more about what we do below, and please consider donating.

Who are we?
We provide performing arts, art clubs and classes to children aged 4 to 18 years old. Our clubs are based after school and are taught in a variety of subject areas such as drama, dance, singing, musical theatre, rhyming and poetry, yoga, art and so much more. View our website here.
We have been established and running since 2015 and we have very positive, strong partnerships with Hayes Park School, Clifton Primary School, Hobbayne Primary School, Harlesden Primary School, Alec Reed Academy, Ark Academy, Fielding Primary Schools and Colville Primary School. All schools are community based primary schools. As time goes by our outreach is getting wider. During term time we run an estimated 25 clubs per week with a Youth Theatre Group operating on Sundays.
We exist because there is currently no performing arts education in the national curriculum therefore we would like to fill in the gap and work with schools to provide these classes for children as well as allowing children to experience theatre through our educational plays and be a part of our theatre plays and talent shows through our “Youth Theatre Group” on Sundays.
We make the classes accessible to children and young people focusing on those who come from socially deprived and poorer backgrounds as research has shown that students from high social groups benefit from performing arts while children from middles or lower groups miss out due to costs being a barrier (The Sutton Trust, 2016).
Our mission is to:
1. Provide opportunities to children and young people in performing arts and the arts at the earliest age
2. For children and young people to have access to performing arts and art based activities with focus on those from socially disadvantaged, deprived and middle and lower social backgrounds.
3. Create partnerships with Schools and work together to fill in the gap where there is a shortfall in the national curriculum.
4. Provide intervention programmes to children and young people in performing arts and art related activities to increase interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, listening skills and strengthen one’s confidence, literacy skills, problem solving and organisational skills.
The Creative Industries contributed to more than £111 billion to the UK economy in 2018 compared to £19.8 billion in 2014 (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, 6th February 2020).
The National Curriculum and Performing Arts
Our main aim is to bridge a gap between national curriculum and performing arts and offer a chance for children to learn and experience various styles of dance, drama, singing, musical theatre and different art related activities at the earliest age possible.
Currently drama is only being taught through English in Primary Schools and is not taught on its own merit. This also is the case for dance where dance is only visited in PE. Drama is a statutory part of English in the National Curriculum for England (2013). Under the Spoken Language section, it illustrates that all children should learn about drama, understand the artistic practice of drama, "adopt, create and sustain a range" of character roles and respond to their peers in roles. Furthermore pupils have the opportunity to improvise, devise drama and write theatre scripts for each other and a range of audiences as well as rehearse, share, analyse and give feedback of drama and theatre performances.
The National Curriculum also references pupils are to engage in role play, learn different drama techniques, explore characters, improvisation, dating, reading and rehearsing poems and plays and discussion these elements with emphasis on questioning the use of language and the origin on the words used. What is Skipz Productions cic doing to try and solve these problems?
- Work in partnership with local schools, housing associations and community groups.
- Provide after school clubs in dance, drama, music, singing, art, musical theatre, filmmaking, clay modelling etc for children to participate in.
- Provide Theatre in Education Plays to raise awareness of issues affecting young children so children can interact and learn from
- Organise shows for the children to showcase their talents.

We also incorporate drama across the school curriculum.
Art can be used to develop storylines, storyboards, explore characters and
situations, for set design and can also be used as an alternative to writing and
discussions. Art is a positive outlet for those with Autism.
Pupils look at cultural and environmental issues through drama. Teachers step into acting roles and grasp different characters and present them to
the children to learn from. These roles can be from different cultures and traditions and the pupils can examine an issue from their perspective and
often leads to role play with pupils working in pairs and small groups to deepen their understanding of topics covered in geography. Drama
techniques such as still images, tableaux and soundscapes can be used to create the atmosphere of different locations and environments.
Drama techniques such as hot seating, role on the wall, tableaux, improvisation and thought tracking can help bring historical figures, illustrations,
any works and accounts to life. Pupils can analyse and explore important decision-making moments for historical figures using a drama technique called conscience alley which allows them to offer their opinion to a moment that happened in history and question, was it right? Was it wrong?
Role play is used to solve mathematical activities such as calculating money (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), calculating journey times and duration, quantities of food and fuel and recording of temperature.
Furthermore physical movement and dance is used by pupils through using their bodies to make geometric shapes, human bar graphs and taking children to get into even and odd numbers. Acting is used in looking at journey across the sea, through space and around the World. In rehearsals for productions children look into how many actors they need for their performance and use of space and shapes.
Pupils use role play, image theatre, character development and improvisations to explore different themes such as effects of bullying, different world religions, Bikeability training, why it is important to recycle and explore those who help us (police, fight fighters, doctors etc). This can help children share their opinions and explain their views. Group discussion is encouraged as it helps to strengthen life skills such as listening and working together and learning to respect one another's simulates and differences.
Dance mime and movement are used to enhance learning about different science topics such as physical forces (gravity, friction, magnetism) and role play isis used allow children to represent the action of planets, space, molecules and electrical circuits. Storytelling is used to describe what happens
in the human body and acting can be used to model food chains and create human bar graphs to display scientific results.

What have we accomplished?
As well as providing opportunities to the children we have been able to provide jobs to freelance teachers, create and maintain positive working relationships with 8 different schools in London, create a strong and fast growing day to day team, provide volunteering opportunities, create and maintain positive working relationships with parents. What does Skipz Productions cic need the money for?
We work in partnership and provide 25 after school clubs every week during the school year- the Autumn, Spring and Summer term to 8 schools in London, namely Hayes Park School, Clifton Primary School, Hobbayne Primary School, Alec Reed Academy, Ark Academy, Fielding Primary School, Colville Primary School and Harlesden Primary School. Due to COVID-19, the schools have been closed since 20/03/20 therefore we have not been able to deliver the clubs since then. The schools have reopened from September 2020 however due to the increasing number of daily cases of COVID-19, we agreed that it is not best to deliver the clubs face to face.
This has resulted in the children not being able access to our clubs and we have made a huge financial loss. The facilitators who deliver the clubs have also lost work. We have great partnerships with the schools we work with however there is a level of uncertainty as to when we will be back to teach clubs and also how many clubs will be running and how much children will be attending the clubs when we resume back to teaching.
In addition, we run a Youth Theatre Group on Sundays at the Havelock Children’s Centre in Southall, Ealing and this service has ceased until further notice because of the pandemic.
This impacts on us financially and it will take some time to get back to how the clubs and how the Youth Theatre Group were being delivered before COVID-19.
Furthermore, our future services such as providing theatre in education plays and workshops in partnership with local youth centres have been put on hold due the pandemic and we are uncertain as to when we can go ahead.
Since June 2020, we received funding from Ealing Council to deliver a dance, drama, singing, drawing and origami and a detective class after school through zoom. These have proved to be very popular and the children were really engaged, had fun and learnt new skills.
The funding has now run out and we are kindly asking for your help to donate to our cause to keep us going in supporting the children and providing them with activities during this unprecedented time and try to recoup some of the losses we have had so we can be ready to go into full swing when
What will Skipz Productions cic spend the money on?
The funds will be spent on supporting the running of the online classes for the next 6 months and planning our classes and education plays for delivery in the Schools in the Spring term 2021.
How will be children continue to genuinely benefit/grow/change behaviour/enjoy?
Being involved in performing arts and art classes is a great outlet for children and helps to focus on personal discovery and expression.
They will feel:

- free from social isolation
- Increase confidence
- Make friends
- Learn new skills
- Strengthen literacy and numeracy

"My name is Louise Prince, I'm the Strand Manager for Extending Learning at Hayes Park School.mI'm responsible for all of the extra curricular clubs that take place here. We offer a range of activities at lunch times and after school to keep the children active and engaged, and to encourage them to try leisure pursuits they can continue through life.
As well as the more popular activities, such as football, I like to encourage the children to try things they wouldn't normally have access to outside of school, whether it's because they simply aren't offered in the area, or whether it's through financial constraints in the family, etc. We keep the prices as low as possible to encourage as many children as possible to take up activities.
In 2016, we had 7 children to begin with at the Rap and Drama club at Hayes Park. We wanted to see this as a "taster" to see if we could interest the children in something a little bit different. Now, the clubs is oversubscribed and we have over 30 children taking part, with more planned for next term.
At first we aimed it just at years 5 & 6, but parents saw the benefit of having children in the type of club that encourages their creativity and helps them grow in confidence, and so I was asked to extend it to lower year groups. This has worked particularly well, and we are seeing an increase in confidence in the children who are taking part. They children have blossomed during the course of the sessions, and have put on a great drama display for their parents - we're all looking forward to the next week!"

"SKiPZ PRODUCTIONS CIC have been providing extended day, after school, activities for the pupils of Harlesden Primary School for over a year now. The range of activities on offer have really boosted our programme and has enabled more children to get involved due to the costing being very affordable.
We have seen an increase in children wanting to join the extended day provision, as a result, many children from disadvantaged backgrounds are now able to take full advantage of these sessions too.
We have seen an increase in our children developing their confidence in Performance Arts activities as well as an increase in developing their skills within textiles and design. We have seen a rise in our pupils developing their language and communication and team work skills, which are crucial as
they develop as lifelong learners.
The members of staff leading these sessions are very professional and hardworking. Any funding given for future projects, I know will benefit all children, not just in our school but in the surrounding Harlesden area.”
