<div>Im here to tell my sister and brother in laws story and ask for community help to carry them through this rocky and scary time in life. Katherine and Nick Kelly of Fowlerville have been through rings of fire this year and need financial help. It started in June, they were to be signing for their first house on July 11th everyone was excited, kids had picked out which bedroom was there's, they could have a few chickens of their own, garden etc. But on June 17th they got rearended while turning onto their home road. The driver was driving far too fast down a dirt road, he came up over the hill as they were stopped at the bottom making the turn and he could not stop and rammed into them so hard it made their truck do a 180'. No one was hurt besides some bumps and strains thank God however this revealed what no one saw coming. The truck suffered damage but was still considered drivable. This accident unknowingly lead to a 3 week hospital stay and take life down a road they never expected to have travel. Nick went in for a chest xray the day after the crash, he was having a hard time breathing suddenly, his chest felt heavy. After many tests and finally a xray, the xray showed a 7 inch mass above his heart. Test results confirmed it was a rare type of lymphoma, B cell Lymphoma. But from there somehow the news got worse as though that wasn't bad enough. Where the mass was it was literally was choking out his arteries that supply his arms and brain with blood flow. His arteries were open the size of pencil tip and they were supposed to be straw size. He had suffered from light headedness but thought it was due to lack of sleep and long hours at work that demanded his presence 7 days a week during peak production season in untamed heat. U of M rushed him in for emergency stint surgery. Surgery went well but he suffered with 5 bleeds after surgery where my sister had to apply pressure to his jugular to keep him from bleeding out, and scream for help from the nurses down the hall to get the bleeding to stop. He would move in his sleep and it would start a bleed. My sister stayed up evey night for 4 days straight watching him like a hauk incase of another bleed. It didnt help he was on blood thinners either after his stint surgery, he needed 26 inches of stints incerted and they could not expand his arteries to the size they were supposed to be without risking rupture, he would need a future surgery to open them up back to normal. My sister found out they did not adjust his blood thinners after surgery either, the doctor ordered him to be backed off the thinners after surgery but the nurses did not change his dose from the pre surgery dosage which was high. He went through 22 gauses, 7 sutures, 7 stitches, and finally cauterized with silver nitrate to stop the bleeds. It was a miracle he made it that far. But the fun didnt stop there. Despite the blood thinners, later tests showed Nick had 2 mini strokes, which lead to 4 spots of damage on his brain. The first one was the most noticeable, he was rubbing my sister's shoulders after she got out of work and came back to the hospital and he stopped suddenly and told her he needed help. She turned around and half of his face had fallen, he had no control over it. Thank God he did regain control of his facial muscles but the strokes are leaving him to have go through speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy with other symptoms they left behind. During all this mess Nick was out on short term disability from work. He has long term as well but the company he works for informed him on 9/25/25 after 12 years of service they would be firing him and his FMLA would be exhausted(the only thing saving his job due to company policies) by sending him a letter to notify him. They left him an option of trying to save his job but it would not save his position or pay, chances were great he would loose his seniority pay to boot after being topped out after 10 years of service. He would still receive a small portion of his normal paycheck due the short and long term disability but with being fired he would be stripped of his medical insurance leaving it up to my sister to carry it, maintain keeping her job which wanted her 7 days a week, and trying to keep up with going back and forth with nick to Ann arbor and brighton for blood tests and chemo treatments. He had 2 blood draws a week in brighton and 2 heavy hitting chemo sessions a month in ann arbor (chemo session was 5 days long each time). These truck that was hit now has suffered other mechanical issues not related to the crash and they are now down to one car. Nick finished his last round of chemo this past week however the road is far from over. He still has multiple exams to go through to make sure the mass is gone and stays gone ans he still has to have another stint surgery in February. My sister's insurance deductible renews as of January and she will have to front that. Any prayers or financial help for them is much appreciated.
