Introduction

Hi, my name is Jamie Bertram, and I’m the director of Camp Crystal Lake, which is my third short film. Over this summer, with my student volunteers of crew and cast, I plan on making a horror summer camp short film inspired by Friday the 13th.

About this short film

Camp Crystal Lake is about a counselor named Scarlett, who goes to the reopened summer camp 50 years after her aunt Alice survived the massacre there. As the counselors get ready to open the summer camp, they decide to do a campfire, as Liv tells them the urban legend of Jason Voorhees. When two of the counselors die later that night, they have to pretend everything is alright for the camp’s reputation, while repeating in the back of their minds, Jason isn’t real.

Timeline

The runtime for this short film should be around 20-25 minutes.

Now-July 2025: crowdfunding and pre-production

July 2025: shooting from the 7th to the 14th (eight-day production)

August 2025: post-production

Fall of 2025: release of the film on YouTube

What will we use the money for?

All the money we earn will go towards the production of this short film. Here is a short breakdown of where parts of the money will go.

Cabin: A good amount of the money will go towards our main filming location, which is a cabin. We will be shooting in this cabin for around two days.

Costumes: We will also use the money to make costumes. We will need to buy the products and fabric to make the characters' uniforms. We will also buy the outfits other characters will wear in different scenes.

Props: To get the effective scenes that we want, we will need many props. The props can be from helping with death scenes to being something the character uses on screen. Every prop we buy will be shown in the film one way or another.

Makeup & SFX: We have very talented people helping us in the makeup and special effects department, but for them to fully shine, we’ll need to buy products for them.

Food & water: For us to have the best time on set, we need to make sure we feed and keep our crew and cast hydrated. The money going towards this will help us buy lots of water, snacks, and food for lunch (i.e., sandwiches).

Extra?: Any extra money we earn will go towards printing out posters, t-shirts, and merch for our cast, crew, and donors.
