I am a friend of the family of 15-year old Hunaina Batool, residing in Pakistan. Her father's name is Abdul Basit.
A short while ago, the active and intelligent Hunaina started complaining of severe headaches, with pain that would make her cry. She was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.
In order to prevent the affected blood vessel in the brain from rupturing and causing bleeding, a procedure was initiated to insert coiling into the brain. During this procedure, doctors realized that some brain leakage had already occurred. Additionally, towards the end of the procedure, the brain aneurysm actually did end up becoming ruptured. This caused both damaged veins affecting blood circulation, and substantial leaking into the left side of the brain.
At this point, doctors were unsure as to whether Hunaina would even be able to wake up. After receiving permission from her parents, they attempted balloon-assisted coiling (BAC), to complete the initial treatment of creating a stable coil mass within the aneurysm. This procedure was successful and Hunaina was able to miraculously wake up, and come home after a week of undergoing physical therapy to be able to walk again.
However, her personality has changed drastically due to the area (left side) of the brain that the blood leaked into. Additionally, she still experiences pain as some veins have dried up, and the blood in the area is not circulating properly.
To attempt to cover for the damaged and blocked veins and reroute blood flow effectively, another procedure has to be performed, commonly known as brain stent placement.
The initial procedure including surgery costs, medicine and physiotherapy set the family back about $8000. They came up with the money through help from their local community, family and friends. However, the new procedure is supposed to be even more expensive, with extensive physiotherapy also being required.
Thus I am setting this GoFundMe up as a fellow Muslim, to see if we cannot come together to help a family in need and contribute to the health and well-being of a member of our next generation.
If you cannot donate, please remember Hunaina and her family in your prayers.
Jazakumullahi Khairan.
