My name is Charles Ellenbogen. I am an educator in Ohio and a volunteer with We Are Not Numbers (https://wearenotnumbers.org/). The first writer I mentored was Rawand Alagha (https://wearenotnumbers.org/contributors/rawand_alagha/), also an educator. With very little help from me, she produced the remarkable story (https://wearenotnumbers.org/in-gazas-schools-where-silence-falls/). To be clear, she is teaching in the Gaza Strip.
As I got to know here over What's App, I learned of the challenges she was facing as she tried to maintain her relationship with her students (an example is the image you saw at the beginning of this appeal) and the challenges she's facing as she continues to try to teach.
I am making this appeal on behalf of Ms. Alagha. She is seeking $2,000 for an educational tent and other supplies so that despite her current circumstances, she can continue her work as an educator. She will receive the money through one of the leaders of We Are Not Numbers, who is currently living in London.
I have provided photos of what her school looked like before the bombings began and what it looks like now.
I know this is an emotional and deeply personal issue for many. If you can see your way clear to helping Rawand continue to help her students during this very difficult time, I'd be extremely grateful. If you are not able to do so at this time, but you are comfortable sharing this appeal with your networks, I'd appreciate it. I have not arrived at this moment without serious consideration.
Thank you for considering this.
Charles
