Donate to help Luke Deacon get back on the road

Hello, my name is Lewis, and I am trying to raise money for my brother Luke Deacon. I have had the honour to watch Luke grow into an exceptional mechanic since he was 16 years old, and I am heartbroken to see that someone has tried to take that all away from him.

As you may already know, on September 30th, someone came to Luke's home during the night and stole his mobile mechanic van, 19 years of mechanics tools and, along with it, his entire livelihood. Gone.

With your support, I want to use the money raised to help Luke to buy as many tools as possible to get him back to his dream job, to provide for his family, and do what he does best; helping people fix their cars with a smile and a cup of tea.

Many of us will sadly be all too familiar with the gut-wrenching feeling felt when we discover something has been taken from us. Loss. Pain. Anger. That gut-wrenching feeling is inexplicable when the very thing that has been stolen is integral to providing food for your children. This is what Luke felt.

Fortunately, Luke is covered by insurance. His van will be replaced, and some of his tools will be recouped. But this process takes time. Time that Luke has little of with a family. All the while that Luke does not have tools to work with; he is not earning or providing. Luke is desperate to get back to work and recoup the losses of this horrible and cruel event. This is where you can help.

“Whilst my insurance has covered some of my tools, those which I have receipts for, I will be lucky to have about 20% of what I lost covered. Insurance companies do not rush, it’s been over a week and my van still hasn’t been collected, so I cannot replace the van or even start to begin to try and rebuild what once was my dream job. The losses I have already had in the first week has devastated and close to crippled my business. It will be weeks even months until I see any help in the cover of my tools from my insurance”. - Luke Deacon

Luke has been buying, collecting, and cherishing those tools for 19 years. Since his first days as an apprentice mechanic back in Tudor Garage, he has curated an extensive collection of bespoke tools that help him to be as efficient and skilled as he is. Any tradesperson will tell you that it’s not the common tools you miss; these can be easily replaced. It’s the sentimental ones, that first spanner set, your first socket set. The ones you have accumulated over the years that you’ve adapted to make your job easy.

As Luke often says – “Every mechanic has a hammer to make things just work. That special lump hammer that hits the spot. The thumping hammer”.

I have been fortunate to be witness to the day Luke decided to start his own business. That was a proud day for me as an older brother. To see someone you love making a name for themselves, for being brave enough to start their own business, I felt so much admiration for him.

From the first van he bought to upgrading to the final van that was stolen and ultimately destroyed by thieves. Luke has shown so much excitement and enthusiasm for his new venture.

The time and effort Luke has put into personalising his van has been a joy to watch. From the mini fridge to the kettle for cups of tea and coffee for himself and his customers to the day he installed a space heater and rear working lights for night jobs.

Let’s not forget the boat horn he added.

This venture has been a labour of love for Luke, something to call his own. When I heard what had happened, I was devastated. Crushed. My little brother was hurting because some awful people had destroyed his livelihood.

Throughout all of this, there has been an incredible outpouring of support and help from those that know Luke. People have shown their love by offering the use of their tools, vans and even garages. It has been incredible to see how supportive everyone has been, and people have asked if they can do more.

I wanted to create this page to show my support, but this was a collective idea from all those that wanted to be able to show their love for Luke by donating.

But please, donate only If you can and only what you can.

"Today You, Tomorrow Me" - This is how I try to live my life. Help others, and help will find you when you need it most. Today You, Tomorrow Me.
