Hi my name is Anna Morgan and I am here to shine a light on my parents, Amy and Steve Morgan, and their new puppy, Grizzly. A little bit about Grizzly, he is just under a year old purebred German Shepherd. Grizzly is super friendly, charismatic and playful.
The past couple of days have been very intense for my parents and Grizzly. Friday night, June 23rd, Grizzly was brought to the vet due to his inactivity and lethargic behavior, the opposite of his personality. Grizzly was given an X-Ray but veterinarians could not create a diagnosis so the next step was to do an exploratory surgery. Loved ones of Grizzly thought it was a more simple issue but what would happen the following day is something we would never predict. Grizzly endured a 3+ hour surgery where multiple vets would be working on life saving measures for Grizzly. Vets concluded that Grizzly has serious internal complications that affect his survival. When given the choice between operating or putting Grizzly down, my parents made the choice to further the surgery to save Grizzly. Post surgery, vets concluded that Grizzly suffers from many internal complications due to genetics and development at birth. First, Grizzly’s intestines were very twisted, his diaphragm was abnormally big causing his stomach to be abnormally positioned. As a result, the intestines were reorganized and his stomach was stitched to prevent it from flipping in the future. A Peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia developed at birth in his abdominal area. As a result, his liver was negatively impacted and developed into well below average size. This also created air in his heart. Because Grizzly was under anesthesia for so long, vets operated on the hernia and made life saving measures to prevent unwanted outcomes. Since surgery, Grizzly has been in full recovery mode and healing at his comfortable home.
We would like to say that this was a one time occurrence for Grizzly but unfortunately not. Vets were only able to fix certain areas of his body to ensure survival through surgery. It is still a long road of recovery and healing. Grizzly’s staples will be removed and further assessment about his well being will be discussed in the next few weeks. This operation was extremely costly and something no one, not even the gracious veterinarians, could prepare for. That’s why I have started a GoFundMe in hopes that I can get help from family, friends and the community to help Grizzly and my parents through such a scary time. Anything is greatly appreciated whether it’s donations or spreading the word. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
from Steve, Amy and Grizzly
