Last season, I raced on the North American circuit with my Canadian pilot to help qualify a third sled for Canada. Here are the results from the 2023-2024 North American Cup season:

• Lake Placid, NY: 2 Silver medals

• Whistler, BC: 1 Gold medal

• Park City, UT: 1 Gold, 1 Silver medal

• World Championships, Winterberg, Germany: 17th place

Now, as I look ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, I’ve made the decision to represent Romania—something I know my opa would be proud of.

To be fully transparent, one of the key factors in my decision was the weight requirements in bobsleigh. At 6’1” (185cm), I am the tallest female bobsledder in the world. Competing for Canada, I had to lose over 12 pounds to meet race-day weight limits with my pilot. Bobsleigh is a weight-sensitive sport: the combined weight of the sled, athletes, and equipment must stay under 331kg (including the Omega timing system). The sled itself must weigh at least 170kg, leaving athletes a maximum combined body weight. For me, maintaining the necessary 77kg (170 pounds) throughout the season—a six-month period—was incredibly challenging.

There were other factors that led to my decision, which I’m happy to discuss further, but the weight limits were a significant consideration.

At 29, I’ve already had to pivot once in my athletic career. After an autoimmune disease diagnosis in my mid-20s, I stepped away from professional basketball. Two years later, I found myself on ice, with my health restored and a new goal: competing in the 2026 Olympic Games.
