Hi, my name is Conan, the Quartermaster of Exiles Gaming club in Marrickville, NSW, Australia, for which I am fundraising. (Edited: I was the President until the last AGM, now that position belongs to Pixel Harman)
Exiles is a Not for Profit organisation that runs a gaming club as an entirely volunteer-staffed community centre, with an elected Committee that spends their volunteered time doing everything the club needs to operate. We are a chill and friendly space that exists for adults to play tabletop roleplaying games, board games and wargames in the Inner West of Sydney. We rent a warehouse and have areas for people to meet up and play, providing an affordable experience as well as resources that have been donated to the club.
Gaming of this nature has long been an activity for people to connect and enjoy community in a relaxed, safe, and friendly space. It is often daunting for new players to get into games. So we are also currently putting into place initiatives that sponsor experienced games masters to run introductory games for new players. We are an LGBTQ+ friendly space and do everything we can to make the venue and gaming accessible for those with disabilities.
We want to help our members and new players to experience the wonder of roleplaying and gaming in person at a venue that only exists to provide space, without trying to sell them equipment and resources. Membership is optional, and members are often involved in many aspects of the gaming community, including writers, game designers, and people who work using roleplaying as socialisation therapy for neurodivergent children.
The funds I am raising today will help pay the backlog of rent on the premises that built up during the various COVID lockdowns in Sydney when in-person meetings were prohibited, and people couldn’t attend the club. These donations will mean that we can keep operating and provide a space for people to come and get involved in games or bring their friends for a boardgames night.
Donating to this fundraiser will:
• Support the efforts of the volunteers
• Maintain the current building that we are located in
• Give us space to welcome people back as they return to normal
If we surpass our fundraising goal, we will be able to increase the accessibility of the venue, including our immediate need to renovate one of the bathrooms into a wheelchair accessible facility.
If you can't donate, but you are interested in the hobby and also near the inner west of Sydney, consider coming by to join in a game, as this will also directly support the club.
