My name is Mel. I live in Austin, Texas, where I run the local Scooter Shop...Urban Moto. I am fundraising for my Stepbrother and one of my best friends. A kind, caring, and generous soul named Eric. He lives in Chicago. Before this diagnosis, he worked as a ride-sharing company fleet technician on scooters. He has also been a manager at bicycle shops and a cycling enthusiast, not to mention heavily involved in the theater.

He recently developed a Staph infection from a small cut on his kneecap that spread, affecting many parts of his body. It is now in his lungs and seriously limiting his ability to breathe. The doctors are having difficulty clearing up the infection from his respiratory system. The next option is surgery. Eric has been in the hospital for four weeks and will need extensive rehab and recovery time. I'm asking for help to cover his medical expenses, but some of the funds may go towards rent, bills, and food, as he is not receiving a paycheck and does not have private medical insurance coverage.

For those who know Eric, he has always been so generous and kind to us. Everyone who meets him instantly feels like his best friend. He has three beautiful children and so very many friends. Eric has been a part of the cycling, scooter, and LGBTQ communities for many years. Please find it in your heart to give back; anything helps.
