I'm Deputy Grand Knight for Knights of Columbus Immaculate Conception Council 8159 in Mechanicsville, MD. We are fundraising for disabled children at the SIUYU Rehab Center for Children in Siuyu Singida, Tanzania, so they can get a deep well. We have raised $9,600, or 83% of the money. Please help us with your donation today. They need a 100-meter "borehole" well with a 30 gallon per minute refill that has an estimated cost of 32,100,000 Tanzanian Shillings or $13, 482 USD. Due to the flux in currency exchange rate and securing a 10% discount, the well now costs $11,556 USD. We need $1,956 more. Tanzania is in a water crisis. 40% of the people don't have access to safe water or proper sanitation. Death from diarrhea from drinking contaminated water is the 4th leading cause of death, especially among children. Lake water and captured rainwater are main water sources. The Rehab Center was opened 17 years ago by Irish Priest Father Tommy Ryan. These are the poorest children; mentally impaired, and physically disabled, these children are marginalized and excluded in society. They face daily discrimination. In a mission of love, Fr. Ryan and his helpers and caretakers provide them with medical and educational services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and cook for those living at the Center. Their great need is clean, safe water. As you can see from the photos they need a deep well. This deep well will greatly benefit the children and ease the burden of water collection at the Center. <div>Report from Father Eugene San: "Early each morning around 5 am, I saw disabled children, some with limbs missing, collecting and carrying water in buckets to the ablution block for their morning wash, the less handicapped children helping the more severely disabled. To see a small girl with one leg, balancing her crutches and carrying a bucket of water to a small boy who had no legs, was heartbreaking. Yet, at that moment through my tears, I saw Christ in that little girl."
