This is Chloe. I am Sheila, a senior who lives alone and is disabled. Three weeks ago I lost my service dog, Summer. She was 14 and my life. I looked into resources for a service dog, but most are 1 to 2 year wait, and 20000.00. Or only first responders and vets quality for the kind of disability I have. I am on ssi and meet basic expenses, and dont own any5hing or have savings, but Summers end of life, medications and vet bills maxed me on every source and credit. I was so devastated my friend, Allie saw my depression and said, "Let's go look at rescues and you can train one." I always wanted to give a " a new life" to a rescue, an older dog specifically. So we went to Big Dog Ranch and as soon as we arrived they told me they had a 4 year old labradoodle who had been relinquished because of separation anxiety. Her vet check was done there and said she was healthy. She seemed very sad. I really felt like she needed a human who would love her unconditionally and who had the patience to work with he her. I noticed the next day a strong smell to her urine and went for testing. (Thinking it would be simple of course. )
Also they had used a choke collar on her so I needed to make sure her esophagus wasnt injured. We had to go through some very expensive tests for her bladder and kidneys. Results were that she has a bacteria which can be very serious and will need treatment. I cannot keep her if I have more expensive vet bills . Im already 1200.00 in the hole and thousands still for Summer's .
To give this girl back would devastate her and me. She is super smart and so happy. She will be a very good service dog with training and will have a safe loving home and human. So in order to get on top of the next steps of her treatment, I am asking for donations any amount so Chloe can be my new companion. Many of you already know I am dependent on a service dog fo my issues and she can have the best life.
I had no idea when I took her 5hat I'd have any medical issues after Big Dog assured me of perfect health. They did not do a sterile urine catch or see the crystals in her urine. There are more results pending then treatment . I called them and asked if they could help me under the circumstances and they said no, I was responsible even with my financial limits, or I could bring her back. It isn't right but it is what it is.
So to get over the hump and heal her so she will have a long loved life, please help us through this. She has saved my spirit, and my life after Summer.
I know many helped with Summer's meds and end of life so she lived 9 months past her projected time . I thank you for a your empathy and compassion. You are all angels.
A dog for me is not a luxury.. it is a necessity for survival and my independent living.
She needs me and I need her.
Thank you all and love always rules all!
