Update: Rori’s surgery didn’t go completely as planned, but they were able to install the device just not able to turn it on and get it going yet. So now in two weeks we will be going back for a second surgery. Not what we had hoped for but at least she is alright in the meantime. A set back for sure but she at least at home taking it slow at recovering a bit until the next surgery.

Over the last 10 + years Rori has developed Myoclonic and Tonic clonic seizures. They have rapidly increased and affect all of her daily life. Her last 43 hour brain scan (EEG) showed over 150 seizures. Over the last 2 years the seizures and the medication side effects got so bad she had to stop her business. Some days she has problems forming basic sentences, cooking, and even basic chores. Nathan is trying as hard as he can to continue to support their family while driving Rori to all the doctors appointments from eastern Washington to UW medical in western Washington for doctors, all shopping pretty much everything that needs to be done. This coming week, Rori will be going in for a surgery that is like a pace maker for her brain that will send a pulse through her brain to help send shock waves to hopefully help her have less seizures. Between this and the 4 medications she takes, she hopes to regain somewhat of a normal life for a bit. After surgery, every 1.5 to 2 weeks Nathan will need to take the day off, take Rori to the doctor to have the device calibrated for the next 6 plus months. Between this and missing work, and the 200 miles round trip it’s going to add up. The surgery bill, the hospital stay, the hotel stay for Nathan, and much more is all beginning to add up and weighing on Nathan’s shoulders as he tries to care for his wife.
