Donate for Ukrainian families with disabled kids

We are Sabine & Sebastian from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. We run a small international internet business out of Lunenburg and one of our team members is Iryna who works remotely for us in Ukraine.
She got us in touch with the families of disabled and sick children in Ukraine and, for them, we started this fundraiser to cover medication, medical treatments, and increased daily expenses during war time. Since we have two small kids ourselves we especially wanted to do something for children.
Prices for many products (food, hygiene products and medication) have doubled due to the war – at the same time many parents have lost their jobs because their companies shut down or they had to flee the war zone.
These are the children we would like to help (and there are plenty more):
Katharina Pokotylo is 11 years old. Her mom Svitlana escaped with her and her sister Anna (14) from Donezjk (Eastern Ukraine) to Lviv County in Western Ukraine. All companies in their home region shut down and Katharina’s dad lost his job and is now unemployed. Katharina suffered brain damage at birth and has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She needs ongoing rehabilitation and expensive medications, and also special food and hygiene products. Her family has no income at the moment and can’t buy what they need. Katharina likes dolls, playdough and cartoons.
Arsenij Viytiv is 12 years old and lives in the village of Silecj in Lviv County. He suffers from cerebral palsy and has mild brain damage. His dad died 6 years ago from epilepsy and the boy was the first to find his dead father. Arsenij needed lots of psychological therapy to overcome this trauma. Now, Arsenij needs expensive medication (Neuroxon, Cortexin, Pantoham), physiotherapy and logopedics (speech therapy) . He is a very sensitive boy because he cannot run or climb like the other kids. When the war started, he was in hospital, heard the sirens and asked: Why should I die at only 12 years old because of this stupid Putin? It was very difficult to calm him. Arsenij loves to paint and wants to become a police officer.
Mykola Zhyvtchyn is 6 years old and lives in Lviv County. He was born with a heart failure. He had surgery when he was 5 months old and developed epilepsy (West syndrome) at 8 months. Unfortunately, his parents couldn’t get the right medications and he suffered some damage to his brain. Symptoms are getting better now but he is still on medication. Also, Mykola cannot talk or go to the toilet on his own. He needs continuous care and various treatments (neuro correction, logopedics, and psychological therapy). His parents hope so much that one day he can be as other kids: talking, eating and putting on clothes by himself. Because of the war, his dad lost his job and the family struggles to pay for the treatments Mykola needs.
Solomiya Tsyukh from Hrushiv, Lviv County is 15 years old and lives with her single mom and brother, Elijah. Solomiya has had epilepsy since she was 5 years old. In 2020 her condition worsened. The people from her village raised money and in 2021 she received neuro surgery but afterwards she developed a hemiparesis (loss of strength on one side of the body) on her left side. She needed to learn to walk and use her hand again. She needs another course of rehabilitation in a rehabilitation center in Modrychi (https://modrychi.com.ua/). One day in this center costs about 5,000 Hryvnia (approx Cdn$215) and one course lasts about 10 days.
Veronika Panjkiv is 11 years old and lives in Hrushiv, Lviv County. She has Downs Syndrome. Her dad works for the Ukrainian railway and her mom works on a farm. They cannot afford to send Veronika to a special school or day care so she is mostly with her old grandmother. In 2015 the family was also hit by another tragedy, when Veronika’s older sister died in a car accident.

Why should you donate to this? Of course it’s always good to donate to large organizations like UNICEF and Red Cross. We did this, too. But we also wanted to help families and children directly. So, all donations of this fundraiser will be directly be paid out to those children in need. There will be no deductions, no overhead, no staff or marketing expenses – just direct help from you to them.
