Hi, my name is Dana Haden and I have Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Large B-Cell Cancer. I have just recently turned 18 years old, graduated Adolfo Camarillo High school, and started my new adult life off with having to battle cancer. What originated as a cough since January 2019 turned into a much more serious case when my whole body started to feel like it was falling apart. For months and months doctors were telling me it was just bronchitis and I tried many medications, but none of them seemed to work. Finally in May, we met a doctor who decided to take things serious and took an x-ray. When results came back, we were shocked. The image showed a tumor between my heart and lung to be up to 10 centimeters, one of the largest they have ever seen. Along with the large tumor, we found 2 more golf ball sized tumors in my lymph nodes. We immediately took action with a wide variety of testing: PET Scans, biopsies, Cat Scans, etc. I felt sick for most of my senior year and had doctors appointments affecting many dates. I tried to continue a normal life and went to events including prom, senior night, and my graduation despite feeling ill and out of place. On graduation day, 20 minutes before walking, I got a call from my doctor that I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. I tried to not let it bother me and graduated with my senior class, trying to not feel like the outcast, the girl with cancer. We decided to treat my cancer with R-EPOC chemo therapy. This specific therapy is very harsh and fast pace to stop my cancer from spreading. I started my first day of chemo therapy on June 26, 2019. Every three weeks I am admitted into the hospital for 5 days for my treatment. What is supposed to be my first year of college, I will be fighting cancer and continuing treatment. I look forward to getting back into society and being able to make a difference from what I learned through my experiences. When I am able to go to college I have aspirations to be a pediatric oncologist nurse to be able to help kids like me who have the same battle. Any donations are very appreciated for cancer is not cheap. The donations here will go towards medical bills and expenses. I also appreciate all the love and support from many who have held me through this struggle. I have learned I cannot handle everything on my own and it’s okay to ask for help. God bless everyone, thank you.
