For Amanda the "episodes" began when she was 15.  her breathing would cease, memory loss, black outs- and eventually she was diagnosed with long QT syndrome. A disorder of the heart's electrical system that causes sudden arrhythmias that often lead to fainting spells, seizures and sometimes death.  In 2007 Amanda had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator placed under her left pectoral muscle and has since seen much success.
Having the ICD did not limit her activities- she was able to keep up in high school with volleyball, track and cheerleading. Amanda went on to college and continued to live her life despite the noticible "bump" that outlined her device sitting just beneathe her skin.
Fast forward to this year- Amanda's device became more visible and had appeared to move. She contacted her cardiologist and was awaiting an appointment when one night while doing some physical work- the device poked through her skin.
Amanda was sent from the Des Moines hospital to the Iowa City hospital where her original pediatric doctor could see her, this is where she found out the news.
She would need to have surgery to remove the old device and all of the infection surrouning it, a wait time of roughly a week to get the new device installed. She was going to be OK- but waiting and sitting still is not a strong suit for Amanda. First surgery went well, while awaiting the 2nd surgery Amanda was diagnosed with Influenze A which pushed back surgery another week and prolonging her recovery time.
Amanda is a care coordinator at Broadlawns- she works with clients daily, driving them to appointments, driving to their homes etc. One of the restrictions for Amanda is no driving. Her healing time is also going to stop any kind of working at her 2nd job as well where she is a server at Rubes steakhouse in Waukee.
Amanda has a heart of gold and is in need of some income to survive and get her bills paid as they come in- I ask that you donate what you are able to- every penny is going to help! Thank you in advance- much love
