The family of Donald Macleod have set up this fund to ensure that his beloved high school basketball programme at Lourdes Secondary School in Glasgow can thrive in his memory.
Donald passed suddenly while coaching a game at a rival school on Friday 2nd February. Despite many efforts from Paramedics and the staff present at the game, he could sadly not be revived due to complications caused by the fact he had been recently diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy.
It is our family's wish to see the club supported going forward for years to come. By purchasing new uniforms and equipment, and providing young people access to play the game our father loved so much, we hope that Donald can continue to be a part of the club long into the future.
Donald worked tirelessly for almost 15 years at Lourdes Secondary School as a volunteer basketball coach. He worked with with limited resources, however the strong support of members of staff and fellow volunteers ensured the success of the team over the years. During his time coaching, Donald more than tripled the students playing the sport, and led multiple teams to success, including winning Glasgow School League titles and cups topped off with claiming multiple Scottish School titles.
Although winning several trophies with many teams over the years, it was never about the winning and losing for Donald. He wanted to grow the sport and give young people the opportunity to learn a new skill and challenge themselves. Throughout his time coaching in Lourdes, he managed to instil a love and passion for the game in the hearts and minds of hundreds of teens and young adults. Donald took great joy in helping guide and impart positive values; instilling self discipline and the importance of putting others before yourself through sport.
Any donation that you would be able to give would be massively appreciated by Donald's family and the teams of young people at Lourdes, as we hope to keep Donald's memory alive in the sport, and in the community.
