WHO WE ARE: I am a Venezuelan-american concerned with the situation that unfolded at the Embassy of Venezuela during the past month where hundreds of peaceful citizens camped out 24/7 for over 2 weeks to show their support and solidarity to the people of Venezuela (who are experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis the Western Hemisphere has ever seen).
WHY WE WANT TO HELP: Most of the people who showed up to peacefully demonstrate their support for Venezuela did so at their own expense. They gave up their time and in some instances lost their jobs in order to join this peaceful movement. These brave people sacrificed everything 24/7 to be outside of the Embassy and demand that the building be given back to the people of Venezuela.
HOW FUNDS WILL BE USED: Funds will be used to cover hotel and transportation costs of those who sacrificed their time and jobs to be a part of the peaceful vigil. A few hotel rooms in Georgetown were used to shower and offer a place to rest for anyone who was part of the protest. They were paid out of pocket by some of the peaceful demonstrators and we'd like to be able to reimburse them as a thank-you for everything they did for our cause.
We will be working directly with the handful of people that are holding valid hotel, parking and transportation receipts that are from the dates the protest was going on at the Embassy and that were present 24/7 during the vigil.
Gustavo Caldera is a member of the Venezuelan community who took part in these peaceful demonstrations. He was the first to pay for some of these expenses out of pocket. He has been chosen by the community to be the responsible party for reimbursements. He will be helping people get their expenses paid by withdrawing these funds and distributing them appropriately (mainly as cash to those individuals with proof of related hotel and transportation expenses)
