Hello, my name is Tanya Vargas. I am raising funds for my mom. It’s difficult to tell this story because the person who was once my mom no longer exists. This year, in June, she was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative condition called PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) in a mid-to-advanced stage. She currently requires 24/7 care, has limited mobility, and is completely dependent for her basic needs and feeding. Due to her condition, she has impaired balance, difficulty swallowing and communicating ideas, occasional episodes of aggressiveness, and suicidal thoughts stemming from the frustration of knowing she is limited and dependent. This has caused exhaustive fatigue for the person who has been carrying this responsibility, which until now has been her ex-husband (my dad), who suffers from insomnia due to the nighttime care that has greatly increased in recent months (she has even fallen out of bed). Because of my job, my family, and my responsibilities, I can only care for her two afternoons a week, and we can only afford a part-time caregiver three days a week. My two siblings live almost two hours away and their own family situations, which makes helping much more difficult. She only receives government welfare assistance.

The amount we are trying to raise could cover her placement for one year in a specialized palliative care center for this condition, with psychological support, occupational therapy, and proper care. If the amount for the full year is not achieve , this donations will be use for hiring more daily help. This would give her quality of life in this crucial stage of her life, and it would also help restore my dad’s life and psychological health, as he has mostly borne this situation so far.

I thank everyone who once knew her and feels like donating love in the form of resources to someone who, if she could give, would give so much more. Thank you all, truly. Wishing that everything you give, comes back multiply.
