Don Shannon Hurricane Ida Relief
This goes out to any friends, family, and former students of Mr. Don Shannon. As some of you may be aware, Mr. Shannon was unable to evacuate his home in Metairie, LA with the approach of Hurricane Ida. Since Ida's catastrophic landfall, Mr. Shannon and his puppy have been stranded in his house without electricity and in sweltering near 100 degree temperatures. His food supply is running low and giving his ailing health, Mr. Shannon will no longer be able to remain in his home without electricity.
Mr. Shannon has found lodging in an extended stay motel in Panama City, FL, but the costs just for lodging will be about $1200 a week. With conservative estimates on the return of power in and around New Orleans, he would likely need at least 2 weeks and possibly longer before he is able to return home. I am setting up this GoFundMe to help defray Mr. Shannon's costs associated with his displacement from his home after Hurricane Ida. The goal of $3000 should cover 2 weeks lodging, travel expenses such as gas, food, and incidentals.
I know that Mr. Shannon's selfless dedication to a lifetime of education has meant a great deal to me and I am certain countless others that he has taught over the years. I feel it is the least we can do now to help him in this time of need given all he has given to his many students over the years.
Anything raised will go directly to Mr. Shannon. He will be the direct beneficiary so that the funds will deposit directly into his account. I am setting this up on his behalf as he is without computer access currently and needs assistance with platform as time is of the essence. I have been in contact directly with him, and he says he is extremely grateful to anyone that is able to lend a hand. If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
