Don Elznic accident

August 19th was a life changing day for our household. At 9pm there was an explosion that shook the entire neighborhood. Dad unfortunately was caught in the middle of it. The events that followed were very chaotic, but the support from our neighbors was amazing. Dad was taken by life flight to the Oregon burn center in Portland as the injury was too severe to be treated at the Salem hospital. He is heavily sedated and doesn't known what had happened as of yet. His body is 30 % (give or take) covered in third degree and full thickness burns. It doesn't sound that bad, but trust me it is.
The fire investigators have no idea what caused the explosion, only dad Knows. At this point we are not allowed to live in the home until it is evaluated and deemed safe to re-enter. We are staying with a friend in the mean time with all of the critters (who are all fine). The garage is a total loss. After looking at it with the investigator, there is far to much damage. Many of our belongings will need to be replaced both in the garage and in the house. There was no renters insurance so everything will have to come out of pocket, thus the creation of this page. No donation is too small and please don't feel obligated to make one. We will appreciate anything at this point. We are all very thankful that it wasn't worse. Dad has all 10 fingers and toes and both eyes and ears. It will just take months of healing and recovery. Dad will not be returning to work for a long time. Skin grafts will be needed multiple times as well as blood transfusions and any other treatment that may arise from secondary causes. Please keep him in your thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery.
