Brain Tumor Surgery Recovery

Donation protected

On April 10, 2017, I had brain surgery to remove a small portion of my temporal lobe and the majority of the diffuse astrocytoma grade II tumor at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

During my nine days in recovery, I suffered from a seizure. But finally on April 19, I left the hospital and went to the Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) apartments in Irving, Texas to start my therapy recovery for the next three months.

As it turns out, my partial temporal lobe removal caused several injuries such as: loss of short term memory, poor speech, unstable emotions, and personality differences.

In addition to these side effects, I also started taking chemotherapy medication in May to prevent the tumor from regrowing and damaging my brain in the future. I will be taking these chemo pills and monitoring my health for many more months.

Fortunately my memory and speech have both improved, but I still have other side effects from the chemo meds and my temporal lobe removal.

I continue to practice memory, speech, and puzzles to help my brain improve but I still have a long road ahead of me. I want to thank all of my family, friends, and doctors who have helped me greatly during this journey.

I currently resigned in November from my career, as my FMLA expired from work, and the medical bills are piling up for the surgery, recovery, and medication. To fully recover and go back to work may take months and possibly even years.

Moreover, this November I just started working in Wal-Mart locally to improve my speech, memory, and emotions. It is a part-time job and the co-workers and customers treat me amazingly. Already I have grown tremendously at this new place and hopefully will continue to progress forward.

Here is what the funds will be used for:

1. to pay for doctors, MRIs, pharmacy prescriptions
2. recovery visits with counselors
3. monthly living expenses until I am able to go back to work full-time

Thank you for your continued support and prayers. I greatly appreciate any help that you are able to give.
