Domestic Abuse Survivor Needs help

Donation protected
I have a very urgent situation that I’d like to ask our community to help with and I am hopeful that this ends up in many of the right hands. Stapleton has a strong history of banding together when we are needed, especially to rally around one of our own, and your help is desperately needed right now! My very close friend, Tabitha agreed to have me share her story because it is SO important. She has been a large part of the Stapleton community for over a decade working with nearly a hundred local families over the 15 years I have known her. Many of you may already know her too, but don’t know that this is part of her personal story. She is a hardworking, loving, positive and excellent mother putting her children ahead of herself in every way you could imagine. She is also a severe domestic violence survivor that courageously got out of the relationship a couple years ago and picked up the pieces of her life like something of a miracle. She underwent reconstructive surgery for the bones her abuser broke in her face during one assaultive incident and followed that with a year of physical therapy. He was then convicted of felony assault.

Despite all of it, she has managed to create for her little girls a beautiful new life, built her own business from nothing, worked toward her degree and continues to serve our community all while conquering the impact of what she went through. She has a permanent protection order in place for herself and has taken all the steps to hold her abuser accountable to the law. Unfortunately, because he has unlimited financial resources from his family and she does not, he has created an advantage in the legal system for himself and has dragged out nearly 2 years of contentious litigation trying to take custody of their 6 and 9 year old daughters that she currently has. This woman has somehow astoundingly managed to keep her lawyer working hard for her since last year, creatively using all the resources available to her spending a mind-blowing 6 figure amount already. They have worked to cut costs, drained her life savings, maxed out credit, borrowed money, sold things and gotten as much help as was available from her close circle of family and friends. There are no organizations with funding for this type of need, she has tried them all. She does not qualify for a signature loan nor own property to take equity from.

She is at the most critical part of her case with the final hearing in less than 4 weeks. Her lawyer just sent her the current bill and retainer cost to move to trial and it is over $15,000 due within the next 2 weeks which covers trial preparations, expert witness testimony and attorney time for a full day of trial. She has no other options left to finance this last portion of costs. We decided to reach out and see if this community will come together to help and keep her attorney fighting to keep custody of her children to grow up in a healthy balanced environment away from the toxic ways of her ex. She has a very strong case and is likely to come out far ahead and get what she needs to protect her children from a volatile life, but she needs to be able to keep her representation that can face his!

Domestic violence is a topic that is often difficult for people to understand let alone talk about, it carries with it stigma and strong emotion, but it affects people from all walks of life. Standing with her is standing against domestic violence. This beautiful family deserves to have us all in her corner, get real and help her so that she can continue her recovery and help others. This legal situation should not rob her of everything she has diligently worked to overcome. Any amount that people can donate will help. If only 100 people gave $100 we would be most of the way to our goal. I believe we can do this! I will be happy to share the outcome of the case when it wraps up and confirm the invoice she was sent by her lawyer as well as payments made from all donations privately to donors. This need is urgent and immediate, no later than the end of next week (October 6), so please act quickly. If you would like to share this with other boards or your page, please do. And thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity, I know she will be immensely grateful for your support.
