Family in Need of Help

My name is Cassandra Andrews and I have been close with a family currently in need for nearly a decade. The mother of this family is currently going through a divorce due to years of domestic abuse. Her ex husband is causing financial difficulties by shutting off crucial utilities like power, water, and gas. They are doing their absolute best to get by right now, but with other bills, they have become overwhelmed.

She has two children. Her first born will be graduating this summer with a bachelor's degree, and the other is less than ten years old. Her first born is currently helping financially with the situation, but is limited to hourly pay until she graduates.

This family has endured a lot throughout the marriage. Recently, the mother had to file for an order of protection because her ex husband threatened to kill her. Luckily, despite him contesting the order, it remained in place and will continue to protect the family for one year.

I have witnessed certain actions of the ex husband myself, and I am so proud and happy that the mother has decided to follow through with getting this divorce.

Like all divorces though, there have been many expenses involved. For example, the ex husband took the only working vehicle that the mother has helped pay for. However, because it's in his name, she can't fight this.

For now, she has been given reliable transportation from a family member, but the need for her own method of reliable transportation still remains.

Besides that future expense, she is currently making rent in the home that she and her husband leased together. He is no longer contributing to the rent payments, or utilities. She is also facing legal fees for the divorce, as well as other fees associated with moving to a new, safer location.

This family is struggling, but they remain optimistic. I'd like to help them by creating this Go Fund Me because I feel that they deserve it. They're hard working, kind, and selfless people. Part of why it took so long for the marriage to end was because of the mother's optimism and forgiving nature. But I feel that anyone would be if they were in love. Especially considering the abuse did not start until about three years into the marriage.
