Domenico Agostini’s fight with Multiple Myeloma

Domenic’s story

GO FUND ME

In March 2022, Domenic fell down the stairs and hurt his back. He was brought to the Emergency, where doctors told him his pain would pass with painkillers and rest.
Within 2 weeks, his health got much worse and worse, and so, he went back to the hospital. After sitting in the emergency room for 4 days and undergoing multiple tests, March 18th 2022 marked the day his life completely changed forever. Domenic at the age of only 38 (1 week before his 39th birthday) was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Multiple Myeloma is a rare type of blood cancer. Only 10% of people diagnosed with this cancer are under 50 years old, and only 2% of those diagnosed are under the age of 40. The shock of those words and even hearing about this cancer was unimaginable.

Domenic has already gone through countless chemo treatments and has already done an auto stem cell transplant and is currently doing a second one. This is not a long term solution, it will give more time to hopefully find a stem cell donor . The donor will give him the best chance at a longer quality of life. He has a rare gene, and with his European ethnicity, it has made this search more difficult. There isn’t a cure for this type of cancer so it is crucial to find him a match.

He’s been so selfless through this all, this fight isn’t just for himself but for his 2 young children, a 7 year old daughter and 5 year old son. They deserve to build memories with him and to have their father around to watch them and help them grow into young adults. Nothing is sadder than a loving parent who is robbed of the privilege of watching their children grow. Just as nothing is sadder than a child losing their parent short of their time or a spouse losing their partner in life to raise their family with.

Financially Domenic is on work insurance which is only a small portion of his salary. Amanda has received some weeks of caregiver benefits which is also just a portion of her salary . She will have to take additional weeks off at her own expense to be by Domenic’s side through his treatments and new procedures. Amanda has done everything to try and maintain normalcy in her children’s lives. During Domenic’s most difficult treatments Amanda would spend hours at the hospital sitting beside Dom , while setting up play dates and outings for her kids so that they didn’t feel what was going on . Often doing a double shift , dropping the kids off , rushing to the hospital , staying for hours and then rushing off to put on a smile to get the kids and rush them to play with friends or to some kind of small outing . Every day ensuring while she was with Dom the kids were being taken care of and having fun, and while she was with the kids ensuring someone was by Dom’s side. Through this difficult time the unfortunate side effect when health should be the only focus is the financial strain. It will be next to impossible to remain afloat with the reduced income and especially so when Amanda is no longer eligible for reduced paid leave . She will be forced to choose between being the glue for her husband and kids or working in order to pay some bills which will still not be enough to make ends meet never mind extras for the children.

We can’t imagine going through what they’re going through and the last thing they should be worrying about is financial stability. For this reason we want to help raise funds so it can alleviate some pressure and they can focus on getting Domenic healthy again while allowing their kids to maintain the innocence of childhood.
