Doclie Walls Atwill was born on the 26 December 2020 she was born 6 weeks premature weighing 5lb 7oz. Dolcie was born with the condition SMA type 1 SPINAL MUSCULAR ATROPHY. SMA type 1 has a life expectancy of 18 months. This condition will cause Dolcie to have very weak and floppy arms and legs, she will have problems moving, eating, breathing, and swallowing and she will also be unable to lift her head or sit without support.
Dolcie is only the 3rd baby in the UK to have the new gene therapy drug Zolgensma. The treatment could help Doclie with more head control, rolling over and may even help her stand or walk. The drug is not a cure but could help her have a more comfortable life.
Dolcie is currently in Sunderland Royal Hospital and is currently on oxygen.
I cant even imagine what Doclies parents Julie Walls and Lee Atwill are going through.
I have set up this fundraising page to help with costs as the new treatment is in Manchester and the family will have travelling expenses, food and could even be accommodation. Also lets make this little baby girl as happy as possible so even the smallest of donations will help.
