Do It For Donna

Donna Stubbs is the mother of three daughters, girls who would do anything to help in her cause! In September 2012, she was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage IV Non- Small Cell Lung Cancer with mets (spots) to her brain.

Our mom has been through multiple radiation treatments to her brain, two Chemo medications, both of which have stopped working, and will hopefully be starting on a third soon. Her first stopped after only ten months.  She then started on the second drug, which has really given her a run for her money. A drug she had a severe allergic reaction to, causing a Grade 3 - 4 rash all over her body. And most recently, a toxic reaction, causing shortness of breath and what is called Interstial Lung disease. Her oncologist is recommending that we travel to Mass. General Hospital, in Boston, to try enrolling into a Clinical Trial for the third Chemo drug. But, her health insurance is holding us back.  Whether her health insurance is willing to approve it or not, we are determined to get her there.  If we are lucky enough to gain acceptance into the trial, she could potentionally have to go to Boston anywhere from once a week to once a month.

Since April 30th, our mom has been in and out of the hospital three times.  She has had pnuemonia, blood clots, a seizure, and many other set backs. She continues to go to work as much as she can, but because of the hospital stays, she has had to more than three weeks of work in the past two months.

She is starting to physically and mentally feel defeated, but she continues to fight and stay strong.  She has a HUGE support system and we are so thankful for all everyone has done already.  We wanted to start this fundraiser to help our mom continue to get the treatment she needs.  As her daughters, we feel it is our duty to make sure she is able to go where ever the best treatment is available, with or without the help of her health insurance.

When she was diagnosed, we were told, by one doctor, to be grateful if she made it to live another year.  Those are words, no one, wants to hear.  At that point we began our research, finding the best physician at the University of Pennsylvania, and here we are almost 2 years later.  As copays increase and become more frequent, treatments get a further distance away, and unexpected hospital stays arise, we know we can not do it on our own.   Therefore, we are graciously asking for your help. Our mom is 58 yrs old, with a family, a 9 month old grandbaby, and a world that needs her for many more years.  Please help us, help our mom, fight her battle.
