Transforming Nutrition and Food Security Research

It is a fantastic organization with the mission of improving food security and nutrition activities in low-income settings through collaborative research. Your support will be used to grow the business, turning it into a sustainable approach to improving the effectiveness of all types of altruistic giving. I will also try to publish videos, blogs, and articles to make this information accessible to those outside of the international development community. If I get enough support, I will launch a video series explaining new research in simple terms so that you, and the charity and government organizations I work with, will be able to easily understand new developments in the field. The series will focus on causes, consequences, and promising activities to address the ongoing global struggle with hunger and malnutrition.

To give you a little more background on myself: I am a Harvard grad who joined the Peace Corps right out of college. I lived for almost three years in tiny villages in Burkina Faso, a country in west Africa most people have never even heard of. While I was there, the country had its first elections ever and immediately experienced a coup d’etat. It was a motivating, and sometimes sad experience to see all the challenges faced by my friends. They were forced to make tough decisions to feed themselves and their families.

There was one experience in particular that moved me. I lived with a family with two adult women. They both had two children, each had one son and one daughter. The sons were these cute, fat little toddlers that would wear henna and shea oil all the time. The girls were sick and skinny. They weren't getting enough to eat, even though their brothers were. I wanted to understand this dynamic, and how to solve it.

Because of this and similar experiences, I went on to get a PhD in nutrition. I studied the effects of HIV on the babies of women with the disease across Africa. Then, I joined the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation, where I spent three years working on projects similar to what I am doing on my own now. I led a portfolio of research on how to improve food security and nutrition in low income countries. I have been developing Food Security Evidence Brokerage since September 2023, and could use your help to expand my reach.
