Service Trip to the DR

Hello everyone!
As most of you know, I am now entering my second year of graduate school on the path to becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife. In the course of my studies, I have been given the amazing opportunity to participate in the Professional Interchange Program with Asociacion ADAMES in the Dominican Republic. This service trip will take place the first 2 weeks of January, and I've already begun preparing!
Through this program I will be working in the local public hospital, San Francisco de Macoris while staying with a local family. Our goal is to work in the labor and delivery section of the hospital supporting women through healthy uncomplicated births. We will also help educate local birth attendants and hospital workers regarding the birth process and the best ways to keep mom and baby safe and healthy. In a country with a high poverty level and poor access to healthcare, I feel this program has made a difference over the years and I am proud to be given this opportunity to help continue their work. I am excited to learn more about the Dominican culture and continue expanding my knowledge of the Spanish language.
The trip is costly, and all volunteer, so I am reaching out to my friends and family to help support me. Any donation is appreciated - and there are more ways to help! I will be collecting supplies such as prenatal vitamins, iron pills, batteries, etc - send me an email or Facebook message if you are interested in donating items!
