Let me first thank you for stopping by to look over my fundraising proposal. I’d like to take a moment to give you a little background of myself before diving into the proposal… My name is Dan Rioz and I have been a University Art Educator for 13 years. As an educator and a working artist I employ the idea and practice of exploring non-traditional art materials, in non-traditional manners. I have urged friends, peers and students to do the same from time to time, encouraging them to explore a wider spectrum of creating.

As a child I became accustom to this method of creating while being surrounded and influenced by the multiple forms of creative tendencies witnessed from a mix of Artists, Artisans, Makers and Modifiers. Each workspace had a unique layout and was littered with an abundance of various materials. Scanning these wondrous environments allowed me to bear witness to a variety material handling and began to imagine how each material could overlap into one another. Spending that time around so many skilled people has allowed to me to widen my artistic techniques as well as allow me to develop unique aesthetic sensibilities.

For many fellow professional and up-and-coming artists, being able to visually enter another person’s workspace, or to read and hear what they have to say is a big influence. This interaction can stimulate the creative thought process and help an artist build a more unique body of work. The collaborative action of being able to explore another’s space and process can often have the most profound result.

Through this Artist Series of photographs I will introduce the viewer to a multitude of different people, styles, materials, studios and creative tendencies. The end goal is to compile all the imagery, along with portions of the interviews into a cohesive arrangement in both book format as well as a displayed art show.

What I am looking to do:

Meet with a large number of creative people throughout the United States and photograph them in their working studio/workshop spaces. I am in search of a mix of creative people… Artists, Artisans, Makers and Modifiers.

Why you ask:

For me, art is a very communal activity and lifestyle; one that requires a shared collective of information and techniques to be spread amongst many in order to maintain growth and movement; information and techniques that will potentially last beyond multiple generations. Documenting a series as this will allow me to share the story of so many, all while providing influence to others along the way, thus growing our community.

What I am asking for:

I am looking for donations that will be put towards Travel, Room and Board, as well as a small amount that will go toward technology needs to help make it possible to continue editing while on the road. Due to the nature of the project I can begin once a few donations come in and extend the trip as more potential donations come in.

Time frame:

I would like to give 6 months to travel on this project with an initial 2-3 month first leg. Time frame and path could potentially be altered based on weather and scheduling availability.

Donation Award:

$10-20               List up to two questions for the subjects

$50-99               Get a personlized postcard from the road

$100 and up    Get a print of your choosing from the series or from my website (image size will be based off donation amount)

$500 and up    I will advertise for you on the road via a decal on my car, social media shout outs, and in the final show/book.

Please be sure to email me at

for any further questions.

Thank you for stopping by and considering this project. I would be extremely grateful for any donations and I would put the funds to good use, but I understand that sometimes there’s just no extra money available. If anything at all, please simply forward the link to my gofundme page and share this project with others. I appreciate your time.
